Yeah, it wasn't grabbing in the motor, and I really don't want to replace the whole wiper motor.

This will be better anyway, and still look decent.

I'm pretty sure it's the "pink" wire that triggers the washer.

Just curious, was the big plastic X looking turning?
It didn't turn. The "grabber" arm/hook thing wouldn't catch the tabs on it unless I'd force it (thought I broke it for good the first time I pried on it) and once it would turn, it would get about half way around then the hook wouldn't reach out far enough to grab the next tab on the white wheel. This would leave the wipers on constantly (wouldn't pick the hook up to cancel) and would be pumping just a tiny little bit of fluid out of the squirters every time. I tried to show this a little bit in the video I posted on youtube, but the lighting sucks.

So yeah, there's a problem inside the motor. ha

And in case anyone in the future is looking at doing something like I did, here's a pic of the wires I used to hook up the pump. Make sure the little green wire is connected to the wiper motor, or it might not provide enough voltage to work the pump properly.

I've got an '84 and I just replaced mine. On the 84's the pump is mounted on the bottom of the wiper motor and you have to remove the motor to get to it. You can't repair them, you have to replace them. They just push in to the bottom of the wiper motor and they're held in by a little metal clip. I picked up a new one at the local NAPA store for $13.12 and it came with a new filter for the intake inside the tank. Here's what it looks like once you get it out:

I don't remove the motor to change the pump but if you do don't remove the bottom bolt for the motor. You can slide the motor out of the rubber piece and back onto it when your putting the motor back. The bottom bolt is no fun trying to get it back in. Also put the hoses on before you install the pump.
 
Since I didn't really know what I was getting in to, I took my motor all the off. When I reinstalled it, I put the bottom bolt in first so I could hold the motor out away from the mount so I could see where the bolt was going. It wasn't really a problem. The aftermarket pump I put in had the hoses facing back towards the fender so you'll need a little slack in your hoses.
 
maybe I'm just lazy but if the bottom bolt doesn't have to be removed it makes the job easier and less time consuming.
