Re: HID for my chevy el co WHAT IS BETTER ?

the lights in the picture arent hid lights ...hid lights have the ballast unit that plugs into the bulb, but you can still use those in the picture u may need to mod the light bucket in the back to fit the lens in

Re: HID for my chevy el co WHAT IS BETTER ?

ny is right. HID is the bulb and ballast set-up. Those are just non-sealed headlights. If you are looking to use a HID set-up then you will still need to use those "non-sealed" headlights.

I like the bottom ones. They look cleanier. Personal choice. Those so-called projectors are junk. There is nothing projector about those. The reason they can get away with calling those projectors is because there is nothing over the front of the bulb... that is it.

Don't fit reflector headlights with HID's, you'll piss people off. IMO if the light is so bright you need a projector lens do dim it and keep it from scattering, then the light is too bright. You can get much brighter halogen lamps/lights than any HID will give you for easily a 5th of the price. Check the trucks running at baja, most of them are halogen spots.

I have my GP set up with hi/low HID and HID for the bright lites. I used the cheap chinese conversion lense but chenged the hi/low lense to a Hella. The Hella lenses were worth the $160 it cost me for the 2 lenses. I could aim the lites further down the road and not blind the oncoming traffic and the Hella lenses has a light pattern while the chinese junk just thought the beam all over the place. I still used the chinese junk for the HID bright lites since I'm not concerned with oncoming traffic when I have the bright lites on......The other thing about the lenses from china the chrome plating peels off after a few months and before installing them put a bead of sealant around the lense where it attached to the housing cause they will leak driving in rain.....

I have to agree with pontiacgp, you will get what you pay for i have HID's and those cheap chinese ballast will not last either. i had both of my lowbeams ballast go withing a year of installing them. So morale of this story is research and don't be a cheapo. Another drawback of hid lights is replacement you can't just go down to parts store and get a new light so you may want to order a few extra bulbs and ballast is you use the cheapos so you can continue to have lights without waiting a week or two.

monte...once advantage to having full hid's is that if I do have an issue with a hi/lo bulb or a ballast I can just take what I need from the high beam set up to use until I have a replacement...and I think you'll agree that once you take a drive with the HID's you'll never go back to a conventional lite....

Yes, you are right. and i have had to do a low/high beam swap to get buy. My issue was i had to get a inspection sticker and that 1-2 week waiting period was making me angry for the amount you pay in shipping it should have arrived a lot sooner. But here are some pics for your HID viewing pleasure
