Will run fat all the time, and you'll lose convertor lockup...you will however gain terrible fuel economy.

really is their will any 4 barrel edelbrock carb bolt up to the intake ?

No any Edelbrock carb will not bolt right up to the intake.

Edelbrock Remanufactured Q-Jet Carburetors will bolt right up.

But the Edelbrock carb you see (AFB style) in stores or commercials will not.

You will need an adapter plate to turn your spread bore intake into a square bore.

The Electric plug control the main metering circuit and is controled by the computer that sends out signals based on input from the oxygen sensor.

If you disconnect it you will run rich.

Keep in mind there are different versions of the Electric Q-jet depending on the car and where it was built.

Some do effect the trans lock up and some do not.

If you put a non electric/computer controled carb on the car you should also put a non computer controled distributor in as well.

A distributor with a vaccum advance. As well as a lock up kit for your trans.

Your best bet is, if it is running fine leave it alone. If you are having problems with it have if rebuilt.

If you want something fancy then a high performance Q-jet will cost you 400-500 dollars

You would be ahead of the game by just keeping the original carb and ECM setup on your car. You will not gain any performance by removing it. They work very well and will give better milage than any Edelbrock carb.

Read this on how the CCC system works; http://www.robertpowersmotorsports.com/CCC.html

funny story... when i first got my 87 it ran GREAT it was like fuel injection except cooler in my book. i looked under the hood before i bought it, everything SEEMED to be okay and it ran so damn smooth that i thought everything was just fine. after i bought it i immediately changed the oil and swapped the air cleaner for a dual snorkel. as i took the air cleaner off i noticed that the M/C and TPS connections looked really loose so i merely jiggled them and they both immediately fell out and i thought i really F'd something up bad but then realized that those connections are secured and tight on our 442's 307 so something was up. I plugged them in and the car ran like total crap so i had it rebuilt. i threw on a carb off of an 84 HO and it ran really really nice plugged in on the computer. later put my new rebuilt carb on it plugged in and all and it ran like crap again, unplugged it ran absolutely mint almost better than the HO carb. so instead of taking off the carb again in the dead of winter i said screw it i'll run it as is. my fuel mileage was always north of 20 with me driving it relatively hard around town and on the highway and maybe 25 on a good day with a tail wind and total highway mileage with both carbs. its funny how these car can get such good mileage for having anemic motors, smog BS and a carb.

The smoother idle with the MC solenoid unplugged is because of the full rich mixture that's a result of a non functioning CCC carb. This means the engine isn't getting enough fuel at idle, which is why it runs rough when the ECM is trying to meter fuel properly but can't. Mine did this too untill I fixed the issue that caused minimal fuel at idle.

Running full rich ( CCC carb disconnected ) can cause engine damage by excessive fuel getting past the piston rings and getting in your oil. Gas doesn't lubricate well...

I've seen 403's run perfect on a stock CCC set-up. My 350 runs great too. This is proof they work when tuned and all your parts are functioning properly. People always tell me to dump the CCC system because it's 'slowing my car down'. They change their mind when I take em for a ride. My car may have only run mid 14's, but this is with a restricted exhaust system, untuned, low shift points, and no traction. With these corrected, it can probably squeek a very high 13 which is pretty good considering the extreme mildness of the build.

DoubleV:I know how it was supposed to work but at the time it didnt matter because i couldnt have my daily driver down due to a crazy work and school schedule. and considering its getting a 350 swap i'd rather not have the computer B.S. to deal with. i'll keep the harness all intact but would be damned if i ever ran it on the computer again as much as people will rave how they get better mileage and driveability etc. i'd rather keep it simple. By the way, i love your car, very tastefully done and it runs a damn respectable time for what it is and considering its on teh computer.

To get back to the original question: if it a aint broke dont fix it, you may open a can of worms that'll make you wish you had not touched anything. besides, as far as i could tell you the edelbrock carbs arent all that great, at least the really cheap ones, i know more people that dislike them than like them.

We may dissagree on the computer stuff, but I certainly agree with you on the Edelbrock thing!
