snotrocket71 said:funny story... when i first got my 87 it ran GREAT it was like fuel injection except cooler in my book. i looked under the hood before i bought it, everything SEEMED to be okay and it ran so damn smooth that i thought everything was just fine. after i bought it i immediately changed the oil and swapped the air cleaner for a dual snorkel. as i took the air cleaner off i noticed that the M/C and TPS connections looked really loose so i merely jiggled them and they both immediately fell out and i thought i really F'd something up bad but then realized that those connections are secured and tight on our 442's 307 so something was up. I plugged them in and the car ran like total crap so i had it rebuilt. i threw on a carb off of an 84 HO and it ran really really nice plugged in on the computer. later put my new rebuilt carb on it plugged in and all and it ran like crap again, unplugged it ran absolutely mint almost better than the HO carb. so instead of taking off the carb again in the dead of winter i said screw it i'll run it as is. my fuel mileage was always north of 20 with me driving it relatively hard around town and on the highway and maybe 25 on a good day with a tail wind and total highway mileage with both carbs. its funny how these car can get such good mileage for having anemic motors, smog BS and a carb.
