What makes up the "F41 Sport Suspension" package and is it worth try to find off of a junkyard ss?

F41 could include alot of things: springs, shocks, bushings and bracing.

By now any of the first three will be whopped on a parts car.

That leaves the bracing.

Any and all things that can be done to stiffen up these car should be done. They work as well on a driver and a track car.

Here is a link to some diagrams I made up:

As shotgun said, why put in 20 year old springs from a junkyard car of unknown history. Below is a website that list differant Moog springs from differant cars to achieve whatever ride heights and spring stiffnesses. You can buy new Moog/TRW springs for half of what the other performance spring companys sell theirs for. 3rd gen f-body coils (both front and rear) along with S-10 front coils among others all interchange into our cars.

You could also give Marcus a call at SC&C (www.scandc.com). He's put together some amazing suspension systems for these cars with differant stages depending on how far you want to go ( daily-driver to all out auto-cross).

Don't forget the sway bars. Those would be worth pulling off a junkyard car.

hey shotgun,

whats the gn body bushing (5) you listed on the diagrams you posted in the past. i don't know anything about those. also, can a guy do those rear gn seat bracing mods on a wagon? i looked at it and think wagons are a no go on seat bracing.

LOL, shotgun, I was just getting ready to post that page from MalibuRacing.com...ya beat me to it!

The 5th bushing is one that sits on top of the frame rail. I think all GN's got that and from what I've heard is kinda fit or mis on some of the other g-body cars. It can be added to any g-body as they just sit in place.

The back seat brace can't be added to the wagon. I guess you could if your seat needed bracing up but it'd be no good at firming up the body 😛 Definately do the braces that tie the frame rails together. The bumper isn't doing the job as it's mounted with the shock asorber thingie. Very simple to make, measure out the needed length of 1" square tubing and angle cut the ends. Drill a hole on each end to bolt to the frame rail ends. Jeff no longer makes these so I'd say you'll be okay copying these. http://jeffd.50megs.com/frame_brace_page.htm Lots of good info here http://jeffd.50megs.com/

As far as sway bars go, I know a 3rd gen front swaybar will bolt up. You use the f-body bar and rubber bushing (or poly bushing) and the stock g-body frame brackets. But, with it being 36mm in diameter, some say it's too much for our cars. I've had one one my car and it worked out good. I'm getting ready to re-do the suspension on my car and may or may not re-use it depending on what Marcus at SC&C recommends. I'm building a daily driver and not a track car.

are the jounce bars an indicator of an f-41 suspension? or were these mounted on alot of other types as well? I found a mid 80's 4dr cutlass with them on it around a month ago, and didn't even think to check the spid label for the f41 code... peaked my interest, and wondering if it's worth spending time checking for it...

Braces aren't an indicator for F-41. My 79 Cutlass had the jounce bars from factory and the fender to radiator support, but the small sway bar up front an no sway bar in rear.

What he said.

As far as the 36mm bar, people forget it is hollow.

A hollow bar is not as "strong" as the same size solid bar.

Where the hollow bar wins is strength to weight ratio.

So you can make the bar bigger to equal the strength of a solid bar at about half the weight.

Check Hotchkis ,they have a good write up in thier tech section.
