Has anyone put an 8.5 rear in and retained stock SS wheels? I am actually trying to put 78 WS6 T/A wheels on a 81 lemans. I need the shouldered lug nut for the wheels. 7/16-20. The 8.5 (442) rear has some metric size or 1/2 studs. What I know is the knurled part on the 442 rear measures .500. The knurled part on the stock 7.5 and 78 T/A rear is .475. Suggestions would help!

Might be able to use the aftermarket "short mag" lugnuts with corresponding washers.

Had '80 Vette wheels on my 2 door, never tried them on the wagon because I never could find the OE style nut in 12x1.50, and sold the car before I tried the above.

Nuts

Just out of curiousity I drilled out the threads on one of my old rusty shouldered lug nuts. I Thought it would be hard as sh@t and not drill. It actually drilled out just fine. I think I can drill out the threads and re-tap my lug nuts to the proper size. I'll probably do them in the lathe at work and hold them in a hex shaped collet to assure they are tapped straight.

How much are lug nuts in your area?

Pontiacgp if you know where I can buy a Shouldered lug nut that fits a 78 T/A snowflake rim that is 12x1.5M please let me know. Stock is 7/16-20. These lug nuts are made to fit only a few rims. T/A rims, C-3 Corvette rims, and I've heard early 80'sZ28, and early Monte SS rims. You have to have this style. Acorn ones don't fit and although it's a good idea, aftermarket ones as the ones in the post above make me a bit skeptical because I don't think the washers will fit inside the counter bore of the wheel. I can't change the wheel studs because i would have to go smaller not larger. The local part stores don't carry a .500 splined shoulder 7/16-20 wheel stud either. It's not a matter of $40 for lug nuts it's a matter of finding something that will work.

dunno about your thread probs, but washers fit just fine, I'll have to post a pic or something. I got my last set of lugs from summit iirc.

I didn't think my responses were that hard to follow. The factory Snowflakes Rims are 7/16-20 lug nuts. I need the shouldered lug nut with a 12x1.5M thread. None of the links you supply showed that. They are for more factory style 7/16-20 lug nuts. And none of the wheel studs have a knurled diameter close to .500.

if you think that a knurled diameter of .570 is not even close to .500 on a wheel stud then you should really bring your car into a shop and pay to have it done. ...I didn't think that was so hard to understand...

I think it was something like that I bought for my snowflakes, I may have gone slightly longer on the shank but I can't remember at the moment. Mine were 7/16 iirc but the link above is for what you're after. The correct factory lugs aren't made anymore, and the repro's are still fairly expensive compared to a set of these... and they have no shank to them at all!
