What's up guys. A guy at my job said that he had a Grand National rear end. When he brought it in, I used a few threads from here and the turbobuick website and I'm 99% sure this is a 7.625 out of a Monte Carlo SS (what looks like a 2TH stamp on the tube followed by a C), but I don't want to miss out on an 8.5. What rear is this?

Unless you’re looking for gears and the guy was willing to open it to look at the ring gear for cracks. Stay away from it. Would say it’s very thrashed on

Thanks guys. I passed on it. I am bummed out to think I would have scored a GN 8.5 for $400 though.

Anything that price for one of those has a whole lot of bad vibes. $800- to $1000 to start on a 8.5” is worth looking at. But still open it up and look inside.

Yeah if it sounds too good to be true it usually is...I have a. 84' H/O 8.5...3.73 open...66k miles. Lower control arm mounts are cut off but have a new adjustable kit to replace.$1000 about 5 hours from Detroit come and get it. Pics and add in the for sale section.

A little off topic, but does anyone know what rear end would be in the Olds diesel Regal? I know where one is and I would think it would be a heavier duty unit, possibly a 8.5??
