Do you have to drop the tank to get at the sending unit? Or what should I test first?

there are two wires coming from the sender, one pink that has a connection you'll see under the car near the rear bumper and a ground wire that is grounded on the body.

Yes, drop the tank. You can measure the sender in the trunk.

Just in case you do have to drop the tank it would be a good idea to spray the bolts with a good penetrating oil

those are the two wires.. your car is really clean, was that picture taken in the 80's.🙂

If it has a aftermarket fuel pump installed will it still be the same? Can hear it in the tank when cars runnin

I would try to use something like an old antenna to see is the wire isn't sitting on top of the tank.

when you have the key in off position doesn't the gauge go to empty?
