Rebuilding OLDSPOWER.COM

If you need to classify it, Oldspower.com was a whole lot more like Gbodyforums.com (except pretty much mainstreamed with the Olds brand) than ROP or CO. There was a lot of learning going on way back when, but there was a lot of expectations that people could come there and be heard with rookie questions and not get beat up on their first post like on ROP. There were also quite a few seasoned Olds veterans that supplied a lot of good stuff as well. Granted, some were d*cks, but every forum has those. Unlike here, though, there wasn't the other makes for the most part. So in a way, Gbodyforums is more of a macro look at all the G-bodies regardless of make, where OP concentrated on pretty much all Olds models or cars with Olds engines in them.
I don't give a flyin' F*** if people didn't like OP. It had plenty of membership to keep John and I busy, and then just me when John dropped out. It was a whole lot of fun that revolved around people first, and the cars were what kept everyone's interest. Kinda like the glue. The site served a purpose for many, and it died a painful death, and now I wish I would have kept all those archived db's and site info.
I miss it too, but again, with all the life issues I had to deal with at that time, it was one of the lowest priorities I had at the time.
I'm glad the name landed in some good hands. I hope it can come back in a new light and give it a fresh breath of air and be better than it was.

Well summed up. The camaraderie at OP was much the same as here, people got along or hit the road. I think I dropped out when there was a lot of site tech issues, I wound up here and never went back. I don't think I'd personally have use for both sites but maybe there is another niche there? There was a ton of good tech info there...
Things I liked
Mike (69Hurstolds) and John ran the site well and welcomed everyone. The atmosphere there was very much like it is here
The knowledge archived there was second to none. It's really a shame that all is lost. I often wish I had access to it's old threads
It was the opposite of realoldspower.com and had more focus on g bodies.
It was a great place to buy and sell parts
There were a lot of knowledgeable members there with first hand experience with GM, Oldsmobile and engineering
Many of the bad eggs from realoldspower were not there. I never understood the REALoldspower. Sounds like a kid with an inferiority complex.
Oldspower.com had a limited scope since it was primarily about Oldsmobile engines and cars. If resurrected, interest and it's members would likely continue to dwindle with the growing popularity of God forbid, LS swaps or whatever is next.....hehe. I'm working on the very first Lithium Ion 442. Watch out Tesla.
Without trying to sound political: Obama killed ROP. The political infighting drove everyone off. It's starting to come back- a little. I think most of the Olds performance enthusiasts have some FB group or something.... CO is primarily restoration stuff.

Always liked Oldspower. First site I stumbled on when I was trying to bone up on Olds knowledge when I first bought my 442. Perfect site for that kind of stuff.
I loved Oldspower simple user friendly layout too as opposed to sites like this with tons of adds, slow loading, and way too many bells and whistles.
He'll, I want that site back ( with the old archives ) just so I can dig up an old post by some kid talking about how easy it is to get horsepower from a stock 307 then describes just a simple tune-up! He kept referring to his car as a 'beast'! It was gold! Bring back Oldspower archives!

Best of luck with the new domain. The "old" oldspower was a good site. Gave me alot of good info when I first started fooling with oldsmobile small blocks. I liked the site better than ROP. You could ask newbie questions without backlash, you could post your mistakes and get advice without the "you don't know wtf you doing or you're an *ss", you could also post things without the "I'm more knowledgeable crowd stating my olds knowledge is bigger than yours back and forth on a thread" like on ROP.
Honestly, that site and the sbo/gbody love and info on the site made me sell my first gbody 1984 Monte Carlo SS and get a plain jane Cutlass and I've never looked back. OLDSPOWERED for life!

I actually got my hands on it sooner than I thought. The bare skeleton is up there. Registration is on if you're interested, but I'm in no hurry to start. I put a similar structure to what was there before, but with the tech article categories in the "resources" addon..... Obviously its got a ways to go. And I need to use that "new" moniker on it. why didn't I think of that?
