Well, I talked to Lonnie today. He said that it’s likely one of three things in the trans that broke. Part of the front drum, a snap ring or something else that I can’t remember (sorry I’m not a trans guy). All of them require sending it off to him, good part is that he only charges $450 to freshen up a previous build. I think that’s for the life of the trans.
I’m also going to get a new converter, and maybe lower the stall, mine is currently 2000 and it shifts hard. He has a shop local to him build the converters and warranty’s them the same as the transmission.
He did tell me that if the converter breaks, it usually always ends with shrapnel in the pan. I’m pulling it tomorrow night and I have a guy that’s running it down to him on Wednesday.

Don't go lower than 2000 stall. A quality converter will flash where you want and still have decent part throttle manners. A lower stall will shift HARDER, where a higher stall will shift softer.

Thanks, I’ll discuss that with him before I decide.

Trans is out, three hours and just two beers. It’s got a ticket to Cincy tomorrow, a friend is heading to Norris and will drop it off on the way.

I talked to Extreme yesterday, he said they used to leave a couple check balls out if the owner wanted a firmer shift, probably what I told him. If that’s what he did, he’s gonna reinstall them and keep the same stall. He thought that I’d be more satisfied with that than a looser converter. Should be done this week yet!!

I have it back, it was the front drum. He also reinstalled one check ball, he said they don’t leave those out anymore like they used to.
I have it in but not finished. I also noticed a small piece of Teflon tape in the elbow to the pressure sending unit, I think that’s my gauge inaccuracy! I’ll know soon I hope. I changed up that fitting to allow a fluid gauge to be added while keeping the sender in place, just for a second opinion.

How much power are you making? The dreaded forward drum fails a lot above 400 ft/lbs.

It’s a stock L-98 TPI from an ‘89 Corvette. Original specs I think were 300 ft/lbs? It’s chipped with all emissions off.

They were 345 ft/lbs stock. So a tune and exhaust might push awful close to 400 ft/lbs.
