Grass looks REALLY good

Bugs and weeds out here in the sticks have (um) “evolved” since I was a kid. My beautiful golf course quality lawn I put in when we bought the place got a grub and army worm plague at the same time 2 years ago despite having its annual 2 doses of insecticide. Killed over half of it. Trying to reseed, you can’t use weedgrass control as it affects your grass seed too and the damn fox tail, dallisgrass, and crabgrass has taken over. I’m just sick.

Oh, but this $hit ain’t over . . .

Bug don't seem to be an issue for me. My two enemies are Russian Thistle (tumbleweed) and goat heads. I've actually made good progress with the goat heads but the tumbleweeds are just going to be an ongoing battle.

Forget to mention, I spent a couple hours on Monday helping my dad with the Mustang. Someone tried to steal it from where it was last stored and hacked up the wiring. It's a runner now but he's waiting on a new fuel pump, then the entire fuel system will be new.

Got home last night from a two week tour. 10 days in Jamaica slamming inflators where it was either 90 degrees and super humid or absolutely pouring. We were under 10 x 10 pop-ups so there was just enough cover to keep the tools dry but we were really doing the work out in the elements. Got soaked but at least it wasn't cold.

Had a 4 day layover in Texas for some factory training on my way home. When I got up this morning it definitely felt like fall. All the corn is brown, temps in mid 30s, and fog on the valley floor as the sun came up.

I'll see where the day takes me.

Swung by the little gun show on my way to grab lunch then rode over to my dad's shop. He'd been working on my nephew's CS for the last couple weeks and was currently fighting tail light bulb sockets.

He also said that he'd been running it and it really clattered but oil pressure gauge was pegged high. I had him fire it up then immediately told him to shut it down. It sounded like it had a Duntov 30-30 in it. Pulled the dipstick and the oil was still perfectly clear in spite of having around 30 minutes of run time on it. Loosened the oil filter and absolutely nothing came out. Can you spot what's wrong with this picture?

While he was messing with Mustang stuff I tore down the Indian and welded the broken tank mount bracket. Ended up being one of the ugliest welds I've ever witnessed. I'm embarrassed to show it.

Good news is a couple rattles are gone.

One more thing...

There's a new tire machine in there.

Put an oil pump drive in the Mustang. I think it'll survive.

Opened the crates.

Cleaned somebody's grandpa's old rifle.

Finally got around to dissecting my unnecessary 455. Managed to make it a 4 hour job by using only hand tools.

I pulled the plugs and shined a light inside. Looks like #7 had some moisture inside at some point. I'm going to soak it and see if I can get it freed up.

I need to acquire a tire machine. Tires can still be had for decent money but the mounting and labor you end up paying for is craziness.

Our crappy Point S folded last month. Won't be missed by me. I gave them 3 chances and they failed every time. I've been using my old shop 450 miles away for tires. Now I won't need to.
