I like the old school look and resisted doing an LS Engine for my beloved 85 SS. I got a L31 from a donor 1997 Silverado and had it machined. All new goodies for the l31 but kept stock other than the 14097395 GMPP cam and Edelbrock air gap intake. Plan to do a sniper FI someday. Got the engine built this weekend :)

Did you have the fuel pump pushrod drilled for now until the later EFI conversion?

No I asked the machine shop if they could drill it and they said no. I am doing a electric fuel pump for a carb setup. Once I save enough money I plan to get a sniper EFI. Plan to buy the Holley tank with internal pump when I do that . I did find the jig to drill those blocks but it was almost $1000 and I wasn’t going to pay that lol.

I love mine! New crate L31 with the Ramjet cam, 1.6 Comp full roller rockers, I pulled the heads off to machine for better springs and more lift. I cleaned up the ports and chambers while they were off. The crate motors have a rougher casting than production ones. The Sniper has been great. I used the retro fit pump for the original tank. Works awesome.

Awesome! That’s good to know. I am planning on swapping this weekend. All of my parts showed up for the swap. Bought new everything. On your retrofit pump for the stock tank did you have to cut a hole in the trunk floor for clearance? Or do any mods to install that. I can’t wait to get this l31 in her new home!

Also good to hear you love the sniper. I have a few friends that have it and they love it as well.

I have 2 sitting in the garage right now. One is a 97 and it has the pushrod hole drilled. The other is a 98, and it’s not. I’m hoping to get the 97 together this summer. Good luck with the new engine.

I wish mine would have been drilled for the pushrod. Would have made things a bit simpler. Good luck getting yours together.
