1984 Monte Carlo..

My drivers side pair of brake/tail light sockets are bad.

The top socket doesn't work at all, and has 4 wires running from it...

The bottom socket works with some adjusting but not long, and has only 3 wires...

I bought a new 3 wire socket, and I'm looking for another but can't find one...

What is the difference between the two different socket wiring ?

Pictures please.

The three wire light socket should be a stock item in the Dorman Help isle of most auto parts stores. I bought them at O'Reilly Auto. They should be available at Autozone, Advanced Auto, Napa, etc.
I have the 3 wire replacement, where can I find the wire replacement ?

I wouldn’t worry about it. I’d be more concerned about the wiring in the vehicle that wasn’t done the best.

The 4th wire is a ground I believe, use your meter to see which is positive and negative there.

I need a replacement though, are you saying to buy another 3 wire socket and wire it in place of the 4 wire socket ?

Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you were looking for another 3 wire socket. I haven't encountered any 4 wire sockets. Sorry I couldn't help. Good luck finding the one you need.
