I felt pretty confident that the 39, 000 mile claim was accurate when I saw this lower air dam still intact.

The surface rust on the radiator support is the worst of it. For a car coming from Minnesota, I was very pleased with the condition. Zero body panel rust, rear frame rails were undercoated on outside, surface scale only inside. The car was clearly stored indoors. And it will be for the rest of my life.

I've got a couple of interior projects left - headliner, painting faded B pillars and door panels, and adding 3rd brake light (to help avoid someone hitting the car after I've spent this time & $$) but those may have to wait until I get it back, because we may be taking it in for the drivetrain swap next week.

I
I searched all over the internet looking for a front license tag with the correct logo for my 1979 Cutlass. The 80s rocket logo, and the late 60s to early 70s Cutlass script are easy to find, but I couldn't find any with the 78-80s Cutlass cursive script. I finally found a place that said they could make it if I could find a good script sample. I searched a bit more and found the script, and the tags came out pretty good. Now I just have to decide which one to put on the car. They didn't have a burgundy, but they did have a dark ruby red, which is similar to the red on the Calais emblem. I also got a black with chrome script, and a chrome with black script. I'll have to put all 3 on, one at a time, and decide which gets to stay.

Sorry for the reflections on the plates, I took the pic with the plates laying on the floor.

I dropped off the Cutlass on Tuesday. Now the waiting game begins. We've got all the parts on hand except backordered Bilstein shocks, and disk brake conversion parts. Hopefully those will be in stock. I'm hoping to get it back by summer.

The backordered Bilstein shocks arrived, and the diesel engine and puny transmission are out of the car. Just trying to stay patient at this point.

So, what's the plan for the removed/discarded drivetrain at this point?

A forum member has expressed interest in the removed drivetrain. I am storing it at a friend's business in Alpharetta, GA for now. I will eventually have some parts to sell, such as the 14" SSII wheels with BFG Radial TA tires.

Progress. The 8.5" rear axle and BMR suspension kit is installed. Everything fit with no issues.

Here are a few more progress pics from the shop. The Holley accessory drive assembly is an impressive design. Headers are ceramic coated Hooker Blackheart. Valve covers will be black aluminum w/ silver fins, and coils will be relocated off the valve covers. Intake looks tall from this angle, but it is supposed to be the low rise version.
