As good as a LS engine is, I think a LT1 is a good option for many. Not everything is about high horsepower.
I agree, the LT1 is a good option if it can be done for a reasonable price. I still like the L98 TPI engine too. I got a lucky find on a 60K mile one back in 2013 and picked it up and it's 700R4 for installing in my 1957 pickup restomod. Unlike the El Camino, that one was a complete cab-off job.
