I remember when they were just better than a Yugo but the '07 Santa Fe we had for 12 years changed my mind. Only issues was those self wearing fuel tank senders I had to replace but they had access ports on the floor for that & the front sub frame starting to rot at the driver front mount. Her current '17 Santa Fe Sport has been good so far since we got it on the summer of '20.

I consider them to be great value for the money. sure, maybe Honda or Toyota will hold value longer, but for what it is costing you, the Hyundai is great value for the money. and you're still getting decent transportation and great gas mileage.

This car has been generally fine, but it still doesn't have the build or material quality of a Yaris or Honda Fit. Works great for how my sister uses it. The 1.6L Gamma engine seems reliable, it's small and easy for her to drive and park in the city, and parts are cheap and readily available. She's the undisputed champion of hitting curbs and new rims are $30 at the pick 'n' pull and hubcaps are $5.

Resale value is a non-issue. The amount of fire recalls that Hyundai and Kia have had is a little alarming and they still have major issues with the Theta II engines. Those are my biggest issues with Hyundai/Kia.

Anyways, finished up the Hyundai today.

Replacement tank is in, I touched up a couple surface rust spots on the junkyard tank with POR-15. Rear rotors and pads got replaced. The pads actually weren't bad, but the rotors were awful and they were making a lot of noise. The new ones are a lot quieter.

I replaced the front right outer tie rod. It was definitely bent. OEM new from RockAuto was $20.

Had the tire mounted on the new rim and replaced the hubcap. Going to get it aligned tomorrow but I think I've got it damn close.

Also sandblasted and painted the wiper arms since they had some rust spots.

Man all that work. . . you sure she won't just wrap it around a tree or something next week? I just feel like Murphy's Law may come into play here with you doing such a thorough job and all.

I hope not but can't rule out the possibility.

But I'll guarantee she curbs that insurance-grade junkyard hubcap before the month is over.

So you're going all in then and not just removing the front cover. A word to the wise: trying to set endplay/preload didn't go well for me doing it by the book. Much better to add shims .002" at a time until you find where preload actually happens. Doing it by the book had me way too loose which left me with excessive input shaft slop which kept wiping out pilot bearings/bushings.
