What did you do to your non-G Body project today [2024 edition]

So, the SLK looks to have taken a hard whack:



The part that's concerning is the trunk gaps:




Maybe hard to tell but the left side has a MUCH bigger gap than the right, and the decklid sits up higher in the air there as well.

Not a good sign on a power retracting hardtop. Cars only got 60-someodd thousand on it, and, was a very limited production color (only made a couple hundred over the years it was offered.

Tomorrow the bumper cover will come off and tell a bit more to the story, but, these cars didn't have your traditional impact bar on pedestals with a honeycomb. It's just a thin composition plastic backer and straight to the tailpan:

So I'm not expecting the best news there. So far this summer i've lost that 82GN, the wife absconded with the 496 yukon, then lost the 78 c10, 14 mustang gt, and 16 mustang v6 to the storms, and, now the slk isn't looking promising....

That's almost half the fleet gone within what, 4 months? Somethings gotta give

Co-worker brought me his father's watch, did a "sympathetic" clean up and new battery. Should have grabbed some before pics, needs a full restoration but looks much better.

Makes me feel guilty, I enjoy having some watches myself but the majority I just throw on here or there so they don't even have a good battery in them it just goes somewhat with what I am wearing

A storm descends on a small town in Scotland, and the downpour soon turns into a flood rivaling the biblical flood of 40 days and 40 nights. As the waters continue to rise, a grandmother kneels in prayer on the church porch, surrounded by the rising waters. By and by, one of the townsfolk comes up the street in a canoe.

"Better get in, M'am. The waters are rising fast."

"Nay," says the little old lady. "I have faith in the Lord. He will save me."

Still the waters rise. Now the grandmother is up on the balcony, wringing her hands in supplication, when another bloke zips up in a motorboat.

"Come on, Grandmother. We need to get you out of here. The levee's going to break any minute."

Once again, she is unmoved. "I shall remain. The Lord will provide."

After a while the levee breaks, and the flood rushes over the church until only the steeple remains above water. The little old lady is up there, clinging to the cross, when a helicopter descends out of the clouds, drops a rescue basket on a line, and a rescuer calls down to her through a megaphone.

"Get in the basket, mother. This is your last chance."

Once again, the little old lady declines and insists the Lord will deliver her.

And, predictably, she drowns.

A pious believer, the little old lady goes to heaven. She meets with God, and, furious, asks him, "Lord, how could you! I had unwavering faith in you. I've been true to you all my life. Why didn't you deliver me from that flood?"

God shakes his head. "Nana, what did you want from me? I sent you two boats and a helicopter."

With that kind of brake damage, that boy friend must either have a world class sound system with serious amps and bass, or ear buds, to be unable to hear the shrieks of the dying.

So today became my de Facto Rotation Day. My S-10 has finally left Bay One for the Street again and my non G-Body G-10 Van has moved back into it's winter abode.

T'were a near thing too as the forecast for Halloween here is cold, rain and wet snow, remaining evil and nasty until the weekend when it changes to only being cold and nasty, and then back to rain and cold and nasty starting next week.

The last set of ECU codes had convinced me to go ahead and change out the post cat O-2 sensor and while under the belly of the beast, I opted to do some poking and prodding because I had noticed a rattle that I thought might be coming from the exhaust pipes. Turned out that the forward clamp for the driver's muffler had being playing possum and faking being tight. So that got addressed and today's brief rotation drive was a quiet as it is supposed to be.

I did go back in and retrieved the ECU codes again and this time a P0446 code came up. This, apparently,. has something to do with the evaporative canister valve malfunctioning. Turns out they can do so and not adversely affect the operation of the vehicle which is good because the sucker is located somewhat adjacent to the spare tire mount under the truck box. Entirely possible that when I shot the rock guard and cavity wax that some got into the valve or the connection. If so they can stay unmolested until next spring. Apparently it can also be a loose gas cap or rotten hoses so there is that to check as well. Not smelling any hints of gas fumes back there so it could also be the ECU having another of its periodic "I dunno so throw a code on the dash" exercises.

As for the van, it did manage to survive the season although today it came about as close to being someone's rear quarter panel ornament as I could care for. Moron in the parking lot at the clinic decided that it was perfectly okay to just back out--Right Now--! from the parking spot without shoulder checking or being in anyway cognizant of WTF was going on around the vehicle. Now, to be fair, I was slightly distracted at the time; some mother had just left the building door as I rolled around the curve and her girl child did not want to have her hand held so she would behave but wanted to break free to go running amok in the parking lot! Had almost come to a total stop just to see who would win the battle of wills just in case the little girl got free enough to make a run for it but the mother called her to heal as I got in front of them, Surprise Little Girl, Look what just appeared when you weren't paying attention. Got past that and lucky me, was still rolling slow so caught the motion from the other car. Love my truck horns, they Can Be Heard. Idiot popped back into the rabbit hole and I moved on.

After that it was just the usual aggravation of stop lights, detours, and squirrels in cars to deal with. Local city roads department still thinks that it is warm enough to lay asphalt and have it still be there come spring.

Bleah.

probably not the lesson i ought to learn. I'd take a toss up between

a) a friend had a voodoo hex placed on me to gain a leg up in the 'he who dies with the most toys wins' contest amongst us, or

b) I'm reincarnated from one of history's biggest b@$tards responsible for mass genocide and worse and karma is still playing catch up

I don't think any mundane explanation such as having too many nice things applies.

Altogether bad ju-ju either way. Maybe you have some Hebrew in your ancestory and the sins of your forebears have caught up with you.

Dear God. Did you have to send me news like that - today of all days? I know, I know we are the chosen people. But once in a while, can't you choose someone else?

Money is a curse??? NAH. Nuisance, Pain in the Tookus, subject to periodic theft by various bureaucracies hiding under the guise of lawful government perhaps, but a curse, not so much.

Personally, for me, the global curse of this world is STUPIDITY Like my Shirt says, "Education can fix Ignorance; Nothing can fix Stupidity".

As related to our hobby, fixation, passion, and addiction for cars, the epitome of the word Stupid is the squirrel in the cage who looks right at you at the intersection, and then pulls out right in front of you even though you have the right of way and the light/stop sign is against them.

Gonna stop right here; the rant for this is beyond the ability of a milk crate to support it and a bullhorn to pontificate about it.
