Got an issue I’ve never seen or heard of with the 200-4R in my 84 Hurst/Olds. It started out of nowhere after about 20 miles of driving. With the shifter in O/D, I went to pull away from a stoplight and the engine just revved. I pulled the shifter into D and the car moved and went through the first 3 gears normally. When I shifted into O/D…it free-revved again. As long as it’s in D, everything seems to work fine. Also, the car will barely pull itself in reverse, only when throttled up. Fluid is full and does not smell burnt in the least. Also has good color. Any ideas? This is an all-original 84’ with 107,*** miles that’s never been opened up. I’ll add that the converter likes to lock up early in 3rd gear under light acceleration when the trans is hot. Any solid advice/help is much appreciated.

It could be the OD roller clutch 'sprag' as it's the only thing applied in OD and R. Especially without the oil smelling burnt.

Per the CK book-

Awesome information and thank you very much! After some conversation with the shop I'm taking it to, he verified the O/D sprag is likely gone. He's been through enough of them to know and he also knows the differences between the run-of-the-mill 200-4R and the H/O-GN versions. Thanks again!
