What did you do to your G-Body today 2024

Finally got around to putting a heater core in, among other things.

Saw them for sale on a lot of places but I went with the fastest route which was Amazon for $60

Yes I have no complaints for them yet. My doors have never closed smoothly since I got it back in 2007. So yeah anything might have been an improvement for me but they are solid and work well.

I bought some of the Enduro Pins for the Blazer but think I should be able to make it work on the Monte. Hoping to get to it at some point this winter
 
Back into the garage for round two of that panel dissassembly exercise. I managed to cut down another dozen or so of those plug welds and then use the steck to separate the seams; the fee for that was a lost chunk of skin that was sliced out of one knuckle near the end of the work; bloody and messy but mostly skin torn away. You can add to that adhoc first aid kit a tube of Polysporin antibiotic cream along with the tape and the other items. Just wiped off the immediate ooze and then packed the slash full of the Poly and wound a couple of layers of 1/2" 3M green masking tape around the site. Made the tape tight enough that it put direct pressure on the wound to stop the bleeding. After that it was back to beating up the plug welds. Left the tape on for around 8 hours and then gently removed it while in the shower. No leaks so went with another old reliable; a Styptic pencil. They are mostly alum and used by those who shave to stop the bleeding from razor nicks and cuts. In an open wound, even when diluted by water, they sting and burn but, they also close up any small blood vessels that might be prone to weep and ooze. That let's the wound create a scab or cover sooner and promotes faster healing. Also a good reason to knock back a shot or two of the good stuff as anesthetic to ease the pain😉.

I did take a few minutes along the way to make a call to my local industrial shop and they did happen to have axe files so the plan is to pick up one of them on Monday to use with the Steck when its edge needs to be dressed.

I still have one more row of plug welds to cut away and that will get me the panel I want. The one flange will need some hammer and dolly work to flatten and straighten it out but that is for later. What is more valuable right now is the scrap piece of outer quarter panel that had remained attached to the drop. It is more than wide/long enough to be converted into a patch panel that I can use to repair the cancer bloom in the rear lower quarter that I just stripped. The culprit here was tire spray back that made it past the shorty mud flaps that are almost a mandatory accessory for winter driving where a lot of sand and salt is applied to the roads. That unholy mixture is probably what also ate the lower seams and sills of the doors away. Still encountering some of the aftermath from that.

Something here has 30-something thousand miles on it and saw its first daylight in over 25 years... well, at least a few square inches of it did anyways.
