BUILD THREAD 78 Malibu 350 rocket build kind of

If that's the concern then you might try a couple different ones. There are all kinds of spacers to play with: open, 4 hole, tapered, dual slot, custom... You never know which one your engine will like until you try them since they're a tuning aid for dialing the intake to the engine's exact needs.

Well let's see here Im running like probably 7.9:1 compression given the age of the motor. So I would need something that would pretty much run at the lean burn limit.

It's not so much about compression, but a series of parts that influence the vacuum signal and air velocity. Intake, exhaust, cam, heads- everything works together as a system and the intake plenum volume is part of that system. That's what spacers are doing: adjusting the volume of the plenum. If you've got the time and $$ it might be worthwhile to try a couple different ones but it's not a big issue by any means. You needed clearance and you have it so I'd say you're good to keep the train rollin'. Keep up the hard work, you're making more progress than I am.

Hell yeah.I just leave it alone for now come back to it later. All I need now is a new battery and it should be ready to crank over.

I know it's getting fire shoots a flame out the carb every now and again but I know the distributor is straight.

I ground down the EGR cover on the Performer to run a Thermoquad. You now see why Edelbrock says that carb doesn't fit with the EGR Performer intake for the Olds 307 through 403. You could add a thicker carb gasket to limit the grinding or add another spacer.

Ok here we go. After solving the issues with the spacer and gasket and everything last week . I figured out that the jet nozzle wasn't giving me any gas. I drown both the carb and nozzle in solvent for about an hour. Both cleared up and finally I had good flow out of the nozzle.

Now it's just too cold between 20w-50 and the thing not getting spark below 20 degrees. It tried to fire over but it just kinda burped and died. I was thinking my distributor or the rotor was still off. I KNOW for a fact the rotor is not 180 off.

If you have a battery charger, hook it up for the night and try again after the sun is up for a bit. The 20-50 is definitely not making it easier and I'd guess that after multiple attempts you're probably low on battery voltage. Maybe you could have someone bring you some starting fluid to get things lit in a hurry. Carefully.

I know you can "warm up" the ignition module by leaving the key forward. but that would just strain that cheap module. I'm going to try and fire it over at noon. It's negative -11 here right now with the wind chill.
