MALIBU 78 Malibu wagon.

They say if you only spend an hour or 2 a night out there it will get done much fast than you realize so....I know nobody will know it or see it but I had to clean it up some. Didn't spend much time on it but also hard to paint in windy conditions.

I was going to suggest an after market wiring harness. There are several companies to choose from. A buddy of mine just did his ‘68 LeMans with American Autowire and is very happy with it.
If i knew what I was doing with wiring than I would 100% take that route but since i don't know anything about it.....for now it's just trying to buy a replacement one.

So for now the can is going back with a carb setup but I was in the junk yards the other day and ran across this tank and wondered if it might work between the frame rails when removing the factory tank and spare tire well.

Roughly you can fit a 30W*24L*14H with deleting the spare tire area length is really limited to how close to bumper and rear axle you're comfortable with.. if you get crafty, can push 40gl tank back there

i wouldn't mind a big tank to be able to travel with more.
I plan on taking the OEM tank and extending to the passenger side width wise.. should put it mid 30 useable gallons. Or solid 4-450 mile range at 15mpg

The 80s K5/suburban ~25-31gl tank kinda fit.. the 40gl gets within 1-2 of both diff and rear bumper and little tight.
Can get all three with OEM in-tank fuel pump sending units...swap the low volume OEM pumps out for a standard 340LPH pump which usually can support 650-700hp

So I tried to do a jeep steering box and steering shaft swap but it seems my stock column is different than other g body guys. That being said this is what mine looks like right now. I do happen to have a tilt column from an el camino that I could swap in there. Any advice? Did I manage to get the wrong steering box and shaft?

Looks like a you have '78 steering column which isn't compatible with the later intermediate shafts. The '78 has a splined shaft whereas the later years had a double 'D' type shaft end.
You're on the right path with the Jeep intermediate shaft and 800 series steering box.
I suppose there is a way to use your existing steering column by going with an aftermarket U-joint. I'm sure another member will interject with a solution.

Also, compare the length of the pitman arm on the Jeep box to a G-body 800 series box. You can't use the one from the 605 (round cover) steering box. The shaft size is different.

Oh the joys of having a 78! Lol I always get the odd ball sh*t that doesn't work like everybody else. Lol I guess I'll have to swap in my tilt column I have later than. Ok swapping the intermediate shaft makes since because it didn't wanna go into play with the stock jeep arm. Well with no brakes and the car not running and a stupid down hill driveway got creative and hooked a tire to the front of my truck and eased it out the garage. Spent all day on scrubbing all day on the wagon and used the wife and my little helper to put it back in the garage.
