Body bushings - body to frame alignment

When I did mine it was a nightmare!! My el camino has been in the Illinois weather for its whole life. I was pretty unhappy with the harsher ride. Like he said it is noticeable and you will discover every loose screw and trim on your car! I got used to it and like the feel now!

    First start up disaster!

Damn....some tough love there! I knew I shouldn't have reused it but in the excitement of putting it together I thought id try it. Live and learn! I upgraded my gasket choice and am replacing both, should be running this weekend. My heads can handle more lift and I upgraded my springs and...

Gas gauge off? Or is this normal?

Most likely have a bad sending unit. I had the same issue, replaced the send and it's all good. Check the ground wire of the sender also, should be back by the rear bumper, make sure it's tight and clean. I tested my sending unit with an ohm meter after I removed it. It was reading half full...

    First start up disaster!

What do you mean locked out? That was me twisting it with the vacuum advance hooked up. Id like to get diff ones but like I said it would throw my quench off.

    First start up disaster!

Ahhh gotcha....I think the valve train rattle I heard was from a lifter bleeding down allowing the pushrod to bounce around. When I was taking it apart I shook a pushrod around the head and it sounded identical. Now to figure out why it was so hot. I had about 40 degrees of advance at idle...

    First start up disaster!

I used those gaskets because it gets my quench to .035! Any other gasket raises it out of the perferred quench.

    First start up disaster!

Okay im gonna make sure the head isn't warped and put it back together with a new head gasket. I should have mentioned that during assembly I torqued this head and then had to remove it and retorqued it again with the same gasket. I don't think the steel shim gaskets can be reused like that.

    First start up disaster!

Yea it looked fine....and the water looked clean when I drained it....no oil sitting in it. Also I ran it with the valve covers of and the oil looked clean no milkshake. I haven't drained the pan yet tho, and if the head gasket was leaking that would give oil from the combustion chamber a way...

    First start up disaster!

Yesterday I started my first build, 355 sbc. It ran fine for the first 20 mins, shut it down to check fluids and finish up some wiring. I restarted it and dicided to take it around the block, when I got back, it was making a pinging sound, kinda like a dead cylinder. I messed with the timing...

    Chevy 350 Build!

And that doesn't sound like a belt noise but more like a flexplate or something rubbing. Crank it over by hand and see if you can hear anything rubbing.

The width is a hard factor....it would be a very tight squeeze with 10.5's..... I have 205 60 14s now with lots of room....how big can you go with little mods?

    Pushrod length?

Ahhh that's a great way to allow for preload! How much preload should I allow in? Also, when I turn the engine, the lifter collapses a little. Are my checking springs to strong? They are pretty tight should I cut them down to release some pressure?

    Pushrod length?

I'm assembling my sbc 355. I need to know what size pushrod to use so I bought a length checker. However, my lifters a very soft and not pumped up yet, I have two light weight checking springs in but they still push the lifter down a little before opening the valve. They are new roller...
