Maine guy with a 4 speed Grand Prix

Heh...its not THAT clean...the reason you only see pics from the passenger side is because the bottom of the drivers door is completely rotted on the sill. :D anyone got one for sale? Heh!

Maine guy with a 4 speed Grand Prix

Haha yeah, love the NEMS guys, but the drama is just too much. Plus my internet access is limited to my Blackberry, so I'd just rather go on sites that interest me more and are actually relevant. And as for the lurking, I really haven't "lurked" per se, just joined up a while ago when I had my...

Maine guy with a 4 speed Grand Prix

Hey everyone, thought I'd stop in and say hi. My name is Drew, I'm from Southwestern Maine. I currently drive a 1984 Pontiac Grand Prix that I've converted to a 4 speed. It has 355 SBC with Vortec heads, Comp xe268 cam, Speed Pro forged pistons, Edelbrock 750 carb, and the associated motor...

    engine package.

Oh yeah...and in case you were wondering what th idle was like, well, with open headers and 800rpm, , it sounds JUST like the drum intro to "Hot For Teacher" by Van Halen! :D :D :D

    engine package.

You have almost the exact same buildup I have, cam and heads...with Speed Pro forged pistons, Manley stainless valves and cam-matched springs...full MSD ignition (pro-billet distributor, 6AL, 8.5mm wires, etc). I am, however, using a Weiand Action Plus and a 795-cfm Q-jet. The only thing I...

    vortec heads?

Well, vortec heads can indeed run .480" lift cams, because, well, the XE268 I'm running now is exactly that. It works slick. I dunno if there's a diference with the 305 and 350 vortec heads. But, as stated, get the cam-matched springs from Comp... the stock springs can't handle the extra lift...

    vortec heads?

I'm running the Comp XE268 and it's pretty snarly even in a 355...right on the edge of good street driveability. I would prolly look at the 262 that Comp puts out as a bit better match, in my opinion. It would probably be much better behaved with a 305.

    vortec heads?

Actually, I know the Vortec 350 heads will take up to .480 lift before you have to modify them...but why you would want that kind of lift would be beyond me. I always wanted to build a Vortec 305 with the Crane L79 blueprint cam (222/222* dur, .447/.447 lift)..thought it would make a fun lil'...

    vortec heads?

You should be fine...if you're really worried, you can put some plastiguage in there and turn the motor over by hand (keep the plugs out and unplug the ignition), and you can check your clearance. But, you should be just fine!

I do indeed! ...me changing the spark plugs ...sorry about the picture quality...cameraphone! :D

    vortec heads?

Hey! Nope, the swap is pretty straightforward. They made 305 and 350 Vortec heads; the 305 heads had bigger valves and bigger combustion chambers, IIRC. You might wanna look for the 305 ones, which still flow better than most stock 350 heads. But yeah, you'll need a new intake, and...

    TKO swap into G-body?

Well, the TKO series of transmissions can be obtained with a shifter in various locations for a few extra bucks, including a stock Muncie location so it can fit in Camaros, Corvettes, etc, and keep stock consoles... Yeah, there are different ratios available, including one with a 3.27 1st...

    TKO swap into G-body?

Hey guys! I have an '85 Cutlass into which I swapped an M21 Muncie and 355 SBC. The gearing on the Muncie is a little lame with its 2.20 1st gear ratio, and there is no OD, so I was considering a TKO 500/600. Anyone bolted one of these up to a G-body? Anything I should look out for? I'm...

the 85 cutty supreme 4 door i picked up, pics

KEEP THAT CAR! I say a mild big-block with a cam and decent heads and make it a street-stompin' sleeper! It's a g-body underneath, all the go-fast goodies will bolt up and work great...just more emergency exits! ...it's funny..I had a '78 Grand Prix that I ripped the 301 out of and...

New Cutlass owner, need to be pointed in the right direction

Since you have a 307 already in there, I would yank that and puit in a '72 or older Olds 350, or if you can find one, any Olds big-block (or any Olds V8 past '65 or so) will drop right in...all the V8s had the same basic block, just the big-blocks had taller deck heights. I'd say an Olds 455...
