I'm pulling my hair out trying to fix this thing and i've narrowed it down to a bad torque converter. The car runs BEAUTIFULLY as soon as i put it in gear it feels like it has a massive load on it. Once it switches to 2nd it feels slightly better but still can hardly get out of its way. However...
I may put a new solenoid in it just to see. It's only about 30$ and the filter hasn't been changed in a long time either. It'd be a good excuse i think
Is there a way to unplug it and see if it is stuck before replacing it? I imagine if its in the pan it wouldn't be worth the time to do that. Wasn't sure if there was an external connector somewhere outside the transmission for it.
sounds VERY similar to my problem. When coasting i can tap the brake and it will stop bucking. However mine does it all the time. Where is the vacuum switch under the hood for the lock up?
if its in park or neutral is revs freely and runs perfectly. i thought that too at first.
yes and it does shift perfectly no matter which gear i'm in. I knew the whole feels like i'm stuck in overdrive thing would be confusing but that's the only way i know to describe how it feels.
I had an issue with it shifting to soon and properly adjusted the TV cable and now it shifts...
I have a bone stock 1986 Monte Carlo SS 305/2004-r. I've had it sitting since January and drove it yesterday for the first time since. The car runs and shifts beautifully but it has trouble even getting up to 55mph. Almost like its stuck in overdrive all the time or somthing (as dumb as that...

thats a very clean car semi-local to me. i wish i had the $$$$$$$
thought some of you guys may appreciate it
yeah mine has the original converter still. I've actually thought about buying the tube kit you need when replacing the cat. and cutting a section and splicing it back together with the kit. I haven't researched it much but it may just work.
honestly Im not sure if it goes to that. but i'll have a look when i get home and let you know alamo.
GM said they discontinued it (go figure) and those are my thoughts on the bone yard as well. i may just try to patch a section if i cannot find a remedy.
not sure if this is in the right section or not but im trying to find the pipe that runs from the cat up to the engine (mine has rotted off) . I've tried part stores (even my own), Gbodyparts, GM, and every hole in the wall place i could find with no results....
I could easily just take it all...
Maybe a little bit its just strange that after awhile it'll be perfect working order and it'll stay working all day after turning them off, but if it sits over night the next morning its hit or miss.
I've haven't been into it yet but i will check it out next chance i get.
