Went over tonight and got 7 inches on the dot from console to the top of the buttons while in neutral.

I'll put my money on a bad battery. A battery can be bad and still have enough juice to run the lights, but try to start the car and CLICK. Just went through this with my wifes car.

Thanks for the help guys, problem is my 78 came sans engine and transmission. I got a TH350 offered to me by a co-worker who has a few g-body parts lying around. Just for future reference, would the VIN # tell you what trans the car left the factory with?

Ok, I've been into G bodies for a long time, but keep getting mixed answers as to what automatic trans they came with. First I was told that my 78 would have had a TH350, but I'm sure that it should have come with the 200-R4. Which one is it?

The TH350 going into the Monte is out of a 74 Chev 1/2 ton. Is there anything I am going to need to change, and being that the Monte is a console shift, will I need the linkage? There is no transmission in the car now so unfortunatly I have no parts to swap over, gonna be doing some junkyard runs!!
