1983 Big Block Monte Slow Build (Lowered Expectations)

They sure are proud of those plates, aren't they?

At least the 350 Vortec stuff is a dime a dozen out here.
They are. But it was a true bolt-on adaptation which allowed me to hit the easy button & focus on other stuff.
Mine was the pre-Vortec serp version. Visually, I like that era better.

I have delusions of putting AC in this thing at some point. I wonder if I'd be better off with the TBI mounts vs Vortec to keep that option open? They have the compressor on different sides. I'm not sure where this car would have had its compressor.

Monte's had the compressor on the driver's side. I prefer for the compressor to be on the passenger side, like a 307 Cutlass is laid out, to cut down on hose length. Those truck accessory brackets look pretty tall.

I have a 4" cowl hood, but most of that space is at the back. Not sure how much space I have to play with up front.

I apologize for jumping in here but I have a question if you guys don't mind: I kept the serpentine bracket, pulley, and power steering setup when I crushed my '95 GMC Z71. The compressor was on the passenger side, will it bolt in too or would I need the G Body compressor to fit the 307 lines?

Thanks on advance.

Unknown, to me. That's the TBI setup with the R4 compressor, right? Also pretty tall. The TPI Camaro serpentine setup has been used with the 307 hose assembly. The 307 hose assembly has the muffler at the hose manifold, which some find bulky in appearance. I've seen the 3rd gen Camaro hose used. Some have had no issue. Others have had kinking trouble using that hose assembly. Those that used the Camaro hose assembly used it with the Camaro condenser, if I'm not mistsken.

The MK 6 PS bracket doesn't allow the PS pump to clear the steering box, same with SBC stuff from Kwik performance..
I used the PS brackets from CVF, and doorman 300-202 pulley, need to space the pump forward another 1/2" to get the PS pulley on fully to run a serpentine setup.
The MK6 PS pulley sits too far out to safely run as a serp setup,
MK6 crank runs smaller ID than MK4 stuff.
7331/7311 is 6/6 rib and single 6 rib 7" crank 4012 is the WP pulley in running
Can run 2 belt setup with either pulley 300-200(Mk6 PS pulley/300-202)
Alt your going from a 10SI to cS130 case style also cs130 uses a PTA1047 pigtail
Can run STD water pump with the alternator bracket and swap everything to 6 rib.
7" crank is big enough to maintain 14.0V at 650 RPM idle with OEM Alt pulley

96-00 MK6 454 in the non AC routing. The PS brackets has too low and forward to even mount with out the PS pump installed.. hits steering box.
The CVF bracket swings opposite direction than the OEM/March performance brackets plus 2-3" it swing travel and will clear the MK6 OEM 6-5/8" diameter pulley fully extended. Dorman 300-200.
