1983 Hurst/Olds (modified) value

I'm very rarely a purist but one car in particular really bends me out of shape when messed with.

A Grand National HAS to have a turbocharged V6. Modified is fine but some stool pigeon dropping a N/A V8 (or any V8) ruins the cars character. Takes it from something special and makes it into just another Regal.

I feel the same way about all of the '86-'87 turbo Regals. I wish I could afford a nice one.
 
For what it's worth, it is a very nice car and done very well. Who knows what the history is on this car. The 307 could have took a crap, it could have been stolen, the list goes on. But this is a 1983 hurst olds. Only 3001 of them made. I love a restomod as much as another guy. It's a way to make a cool car better. But don't do it to a rare car like that. If the car has been totally redone, paint, wheels, etc, get a basic cutlass and do a clone project. As far as the value of this car goes, it's only worth what the guy who wants it wants to pay for it. It would have been worth more all original. Q dub, if this is what you like, buy it! We buy these cars and have forums like this because these cars are what we like and we build them to meet our standards and preferences. I love these cars and they will always be my favorite. I built my monte as the way I wanted it, not anyone else. I may be rambling on now. So these are all opinions and thanks for asking us but in the end it is ultimately your decision. I think you will make the right choice . It will be a fun car with that big block!
Agree, to me this isn't a Hurst Olds any more, it's just another Cutlass with Lightning Rods and W40 effects... that to me affects price tremendously. A Hurst or 442 is a Hurst or 442 because it was designed and badged by GM as such. The moment you start changing things (visually) such as the paint and interior it is no longer a Hurst or 442 to me, just another custom with an expensive base.
Customs have specific/limited buyers to taste.... a stock original survivor will go for more money than a custom in most cases. Collectors are the ones willing to pay high dollar for these cars and with a custom you are limited to that one guy unless the custom is so well done many gotta have it...
With this car the rims and that huge Hurst emblem on the seat hurt the value... however rims can be changed, those seats/interior are not easily changed and isn't something that appeals to all.
Not saying that it isn't a nice car but the original owner installed some limiting factors for an easy sale.
 
The owner of any limited car is that owners property and if he wants to drop a honda 4 banger in his gnx thats his choice even if i wouldnt do it. He doesn't have a duty to you or the world to treat his car like a rolling museum thats what museums are for. If he likes stock great.

This olds big block upgrade is also very tasteful and fun.

Well it's a true '83 Hurst/Olds. The original stock wheels and the original 307 are included in the sale as well. I really don't even want the 307; I would have ditched it myself anyway. I like the interior's color scheme better than the stock offerings. I'm not a car collector just buying this to park in some climate-controlled storage unit. This will be driven, probably more than my Camaros. I will not be racing this car either, I'm keeping my other Cutlass for that.
 
Different strokes for different folks. I don't necessarily agree with the "all stock as GM built it" mindset (always room for improvement, IMO), but I can respect that that is preferred by some.
 
Definitely get the original wheels, they have dollar value if they are in good shape, unlike the 307. I would ask to see receipts on the 2004R build up and I would add Yukon spider gears at minimum to the stock 7.5" rear which is probably a 3.73 open. I would personally drive that thing everywhere, it is a cool custom.
