Looks super clean!! like others have said, dont care for the wheels but easily changed. A car is only worth what someone is willing to pay. If you feel $12k is a good deal then its worth it to you.

Were the lightning rods modified to work the 4 speed trans?

Huh? All the 83/84 Hurst/Olds had the 2004R with the Lightning rods.
I think it is very nice and worth the price with a properly built 455 and hopefully a properly beefed 2004R. The spindly 7.5" rear makes the 83 less valuable to me but less were made than the 84's. Make sure it is an actual Hurst/Olds if that is important, it will have a 9 vs a Y as the 9th? digit.

Here is one in a similar price range, it was a full resto with some custom touches and from what I remember from the original add it has a 455 Pontiac engine and functional AC.

So did they just sew a Hurst patch on these seats?

How solid is the chassis? Any collision repair?
I need to ask about the door hinges, the striker bolts, window alignment and hood alignment - Yes, those are small items but if the seller has taken care of the fiddly little things then there is a good chance the rest of the car is good as well.

Yes that is correct............ brain fart!!!

Only frame of reference I have is a pretty clean (not perfect, but very nice) survivor I looked at here about four years ago for $10k. Based on that, the car you are looking at seems to be a good value, if the work is well done. I like the 455 and I love that the interior isn't burgandy.

Only you can answerer if it is worth it to you. I don't see anything throwing any red flags and if you have to have it - it's up to you. The nada LOW blue book on it is $11,000. Original engine and wheels coming with it is a plus and after watching Barrett modified doesn't seem to be hurting value. It would be nice if he upgraded the rear. A close look at it will tell you the workmanship in it and the fact the air is working is attention to detail. I drove down to Indianapolis yesterday to look at a car I've been wanting and happy to say came home with it.
