1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham

It looks like you might have clearance issues. That setup plus the carb hat is going to be tall. I love the idea and will be following your progress. Best of luck

I am going to cut something through the hood. I have a spare hood to experiment.

And thanks for the luck! 🙂

With the earlier Buick 231 block, it's worth the effort to change the oil pickup to a newer model. The size of the tube is much bigger.

Left 1987; right 1977.

And then, once the oil pickup is changed, improving the oil passages in the block is a must. From Pat Ganahl's V6 performance.

éh oui.

bought new rocker arm/shaft, to replace the used 1977 ones. Came off a 1987 GN. Used and new one side by side. The dirty one is the used one. 😉

These are identical, except the GN ones have embossing to accept a larger push rod.

Running lower on $budget$, but this is a low-cash mod to improve the rocker arm/shaft.

1) remove plastic button
2) drill 9/32
3) tap thread 5/16
4) cut 3/4 ID pipe to create plate
5) assemble using a headless bolt.

The plate I cut is offcentered, but this is because I was not patient enough for this proof of concept 🙂

BTW, the steel for that shaft is very hard.

haven't ported the heads yet. but did get around to paint my future 15" wheels - Pontiac Rallye II. Those ebay stencils are worth every penny they cost!

This 1977 block has a smallish 7/16 oil pickup hole bored into the block.

My goal is to drill it to 0.5 or 0.58 (9/16). Started with 0.5, soft metal, works well.

0.5" means 30% more surface for the oil gallery.
0.5825" means 65% more surface for the oil gallery.
