Where can one of those spring compressors can be found at. All I keep finding is the ones that attach on the outer part of the spring (like claw hooks). Maybe I'm not looking hard enough... lol. Thank you all again
Is there any concerns of the jack kicking out when lowering it? I guess raising the car high enough to be able to release almost all the tension, right? I appreciate the help and your comments. That's why I like this forum....
It's slightly different than the one I posted but I have used this style with no problems and I think this is ion the tool rental section

if used properly there is not problem with that style. I used that style to remove and install the moog 5660 a few times
I agree that tool is a POS. Russian roulette. Anytime I have done em was on the hoist with a stand. Put the stand on the bottom of the control arm, let the hoist down a lil to take some weight. Remove the "bolts that fasten the control arm to the frame. Rasie the vehicle and the spring is out. Also did it this way on the floor with jack and jack stands. That tool is for amateurs. lolIve been a mechanic for 20+ years.i used it once and will never use it again.theres absolutely no safety features except the washer thats not supposed to be able to jump out of the slot.
Ive replaced many springs over 20 years.trust me,the method i posted is the way it will be done from now on.simple and straight forward.the spring cant go anywhere.its coming straight down and going straight up as it was designed to do.
