When you say "loop a chain" is that thru the middle of the spring? My goal is to change out the a-arms with new ones, and since i have it off repaint the coils also. I have looked for a video or even pictures of someone doing this but no luck. Any one seen any?

this guy is using a strap but it'll give you an idea where to put a chain...

I Used the Auto zone tool also.
It worked but If I took them off next time I wouldn't use it, You don't need it if you lift the car up High Enough.
When I put the springs back on I tried to use it but it was very difficult.
I used a big 2x4 and shoved the lower part of the spring in place.
This can be a dangerous job of you just have a jack and jack stands and do it by yourself and don't know what your doing, No Joke.

If I removing springs that will not be used again I cut the spring so it's easy to take out. I agree that Auto Zone tool is not the easiest to use if you take your time and position it right it works well.

Sounds good. I am not going to cut the springs as I am going to reuse them. With just my luck the autozone/ oreilley here dont have that particular spring compressor or similar to it. I guess iI have to go with plan b using chains. Will a heavy duty cargo strap work? I figured I ask.
