More progress made on the new motor today! We are getting closer!

I am really glad we went this direction with the colors. The gold, grey, black, red, and small touches of chrome. Just enough so its not over the top, but looks good. Almost every car at these car shows has chromed over engines, we decided to be different and I am really glad we did!

Very nice. Those Thornton manifolds look better than I thought they would. There is an argument how much better they are vs regular manifolds capped off. Unfortunately there is only so much room to expand them. I notice the larger fuel pump and Performer manifold. Another argument is there will be a revision between your tiny swirl port heads and larger intake ports on the Performer manifold. What carb did you decide on? You should have gone one step further and gone with an Olds 350.

The original plan was for an Olds Rocket 350. Just could not find one - and I looked all over. They were either stripped down garbage or finished motors out of my price range. And even then I got beat by someone else. Almost went the 403 route, but we decided that rebuilding the original 307 would keep it stock, but not so stock with what we have done to it. New carb, all the smog crap removed, hi flow manifolds and new dual exhaust should be fine. It's not going to win any races, but it will run good and sound better. I figured by doing it this way, we could do it right.

The 403 is a good choice, much more torque. The swirl port 307 does have good torque, like all Olds V8's. My 260 was surprising decent with gearing and exhaust. What all was done internally and what carb did you decide on?

Everyone goes edelbrock because holleys are too complicated and quadrajets are witchcraft. Apparently. I hate eddy carbs with a burning passion. Sure, if you need it to run, they're fine. But for the same price if not less, you can never go wrong with a q jet.

I cannot begin to tell you the amount of time that went into deciding on the carb and intake. We have a local "Olds" and carb expert around here that we consulted with on the build, and we also went through forum threads together. He has built a number of these, as has my people, and they all have had great success with Edelbrock. So they went with Edelbrock for the carb and intake. One of the main reasons was all the changes we are making on the engine itself. Time will tell, but I trust enough in them to take their recommendation.

The Edelbrock based off the AFB and AVS are a dated design. The Qjet and Street Demon based heavily off the Thermoquad but in an all new 3 barrel castings with almost all the problem areas fixed. There are so many threads with running issues on the Classic Oldsmobile site, almost all of them involve the Edelbrock carbs. Get a tuning kit as it will be very rich for your 307, like most aftermarket carbs will be.

Just wondering what olds guy you used? I also am in ocean county brick in fact were are you?

I forget his last name, but he goes by "Carburetor Al". If you've been to any local shows, among his many cars, he usually pulls up in a white and 50's blue custom 57 Chevy. He laid out everything to do, and my mechanic had the same idea. We've also talked to Thorton Muscle Cars in Quackertown PA. They provided the manifolds and some advice. Once final one was Anthony from Xtreme Drivetrain in Bayville. He built the trans to match the engine build.

Seems you are pretty local to me. The shop doing the work is On Point Automotive in Point Pleasant Beach. The owner, Joe, also another guy who has built many of these engines. He loves doing this stuff so if you ever need work on your car look him up - 848-232-1850.
