We put Vintage Air in my brother's Camaro. I'm not blown away by the performance. It does free up a lot of room under the hood but I think the cooling/heating capacity is less than the stock setup (smaller components).
Where are you at? You are either much tougher than me (likely) or in a much more forgiving climate. I will not tolerate a car or truck without A/C here in Houston. If it doesn't have A/C, it is junk to me, here.
Between anemia plus having worked at an aluminum foundry for a long period of time(worked with 800°-1600° aluminum in a 120° plant) I'm just not big on it. I live around Missouri Arkansas line
The rebuild is almost complete - I should have the newly rebuilt 307 back early next week. We are going to pull the 200R4 trans and have that rebuilt as well. For all of you that have been looking at Monster transmissions, I found a better place for less - Xtreme Drivetrain in Bayville NJ. The owner, Anthony, had worked for Monster but did not like how they did certain things. He now custom builds for your application. Very knowledgeable and he knows his stuff. Check him out:
So as of right now the engine and trans should be in and done by the end of April. I took the Olds out for a long drive today, can't wait to get this project done!
Wow, extremely lucky finding a low mile Vin 9 drive train. This will definitely be the case of not needing much during the rebuild. I would have milled the heads a bit and added 350 valves with a bowl hog to try and help that poor little 7.9 to 1 swirl port 307 and it would still look stock. The 2004R should need gaskets basically. Awesome.
Well my 307 block came back from rebuild. Still all wrapped up but should be in the car before the end of the month, along with the new transmission. Can't wait!
Finally, it's all coming together. The 442 is at the shop and the engine and trans should be out Monday. Right now they are assembling the engine and getting everything all ready. Today is the Englishtown NJ swap meet - my wife and I am going to head over this morning and see what stuff we can pick up. Should be a nice day! In the meantime, some more photos of the block awaiting rebuild.
They got right to work on the 442! Everything is prepped, they removed the transmission today and removed the old exhaust. Tomorrow I take the trans to be rebuilt, and then it will be back to them on Monday. At this rate I'll have the car back in a little over a week - they are moving along fast! As you can see, the doctor was in and ready to operate.
