Some more progress photos of the motor. The air cleaner is from oldsfan78 on E-bay, he is also on this forum as well. Jegs has been out of stock of them forever and he shipped it fast with some extras for me. I love the look! Tomorrow the engine bay gets cleaned and painted, motor and trans go back in the car on Wednesday and I should have it back shortly there after!

That's sweet! I can't wait to hear mine run it's kinda sorta the same thing

Engine looks great. Between that Gold and the Olds Blue, I think Olds had the best looking engine colors. With a black engine bay (I assume) that Gold is going to really pop when the hood opens up.

Looks good. Of course your car already came with a decent dual snorkel air cleaner.

Engine back is being painted the same, black, so the engine pops. We almost painted it the Olds 455 blue, but at the last minute I changed my mind to go gold. I am so glad its gold - I love the look. Not too much chrome, just enough so its not over the top.

Once it get all the bugs worked out and get your engine running a good carb that would work's good and is reliable and won't mess up is a quickfuel carb. I've used them on all my friends cars and mine also.

Yep, that or a street or speed demon carb. I ran a speed demon for years and it was a great carb....once it was dialed in i never had to mess with it! Middle of winter it would fire off almost instantly, summer was no different.

If the Edelbrock runs like crap, which it probably will, either of these carbs have very few negative reviews. Any carb, including the above will need a complete retune as they are set up for a 9 to 1 350 with a more than stock cam, out of box. Your 8 to 1 307 requires a much leaner set up. A guy with a 8 to 1 Olds 350 showed how much leaner he went with his Edelbrock 625 on Classic Olds, it was a lot.

One reason it is a shame the ECM gets punted so quickly on most rebuilds. Now I understand that it is literally a "black box" to most but that CCC works quite well when it is right, is nearly fuel injection responsive, and then you have lean burn out on the H/W which is why you could see 23/24mpg even with the 9 engine. Some have seen even more with the Y. And why we were able to get even my big block up in the 18-20 range with the stock 3.73 gears. That's 20 at 65mph down to 18 at 75mph. I do expect that to get a tad better with the 3.42 gears [as it should] but, frankly, I just REALLY want to drive it again at this point . . . 🙁

Looks like progress here . . .
