Re: Might do a 442 Clone need help with paint

Buy a Honda and practice on it. I would hesitate to use your car as a guinea pig if you've never done any painting before -- especially if your car looks as good in person as it does in the pics. You can look at it two ways. If you plan to do more painting in the future than it makes sense to invest in the tools and equipment to do it yourself. If you don't plan to do it ever again you'll probably be farther ahead to just take it to a GOOD shop and just pay them. Simple economics. Another way to do it would be to enroll in a community college auto body program. You'll get the training and have access to tools.

I think just some meatier white letters tires and darker tint especially in the back & opera windows would do wonders. Driven has some good points. x2

The Tires are already my priority along with new brakes. The car already has a light tint from the first owner so I dont know if im ready to do that just yet.

Not really feeling the gold rims but if your going for a 442 clone it makes sense.

And please don't waist time and money painting your car when the stock paint is fine that would be retarded.

x2^^^^^^if you gonna stay with the gold on the rallies, run a gold pinstripe,or 442 decal set.just my dos centavos

I wasnt going to paint the whole car just the bottom part grey like the 442 and then buy the stripes package from Gbodyparts.

Thats also my plan a gold pinstripe or 442 colours. I just dont want a 442 decale package untill i get the 3.8turbo in there so if people challange me i dont look stupid.

I think I've seen your car around here, are you around the North Bay area?
Sharp looking car, I have a blue Cutlass

Uhm , Im from Oshawa Dont think I've brought my car to north bay but I have been on a few road trips down to cottages and what not so it is possible.

u need raised whites, and a turbo in a 442 clone would be stupid imo, geth youself a nice 403,true dual exhaust, and ad TH350 with posi rear end then ull be set 🙂

The turbo 3.8 doesn't bother me as much as trying to clone a 442. I understand if you like the paint scheme and want to copy that -- just skip the 442 decals/badges. As soon as you add those you are fair game to a ton of negative feedback. Example: Any '69 Camaro or '70 Chevelle can get away with rally stripes and/or rally wheels. That's just a styling choice. But adding Z/28 or SS badges while having a 307 under the hood and a bench seat is instant poser status. Personally, I have no problem with a well done "tribute car" as long as all the details are correct and the owner doesn't try to misrepresent it as something it's not. Just my .02.
And I still think you should check into some community college programs to get some training before tackling the paint job. It doesn't cost much and you'll learn a lot -- plus have access to good tools, guns, and a paint booth. At your age it's a skill that will pay you back. I'm sure you have plenty of friends that need bumper and fender scrapes fixed.
