Re: 87 Cutty Rallye Rim Issue

As for the exhaust question, not a lot of mufflers will sound good on a v6. When I had a 3.8 I had 1 into 2 duals with cherry bomb turbo mufflers. It sounded very good for a v6! Not extremely loud, just a nice rumble. They're only like $20 each. Maybe look into those.

Re: 87 Cutty Rallye Rim Issue

I really like those rims and the colour. I was thinking a similar colour on mine. Dual exhaust, 2 1/4" minimum with turbo mufflers and tail pipes all the way back. That will work great with a mild Olds 350, would need just the head pipes done to match. I love the Olds 350, have one and owned another before, one of GM's most reliable motors ever. The Olds 403 is also another great choice. That said, the Buick 350 is a direct swap. The 3.8 is that motor with 2 cylinders cut off. An Olds 307 donor car is best for brackets, mounts etc to swap a 350 or 403. They are rare up here in G bodies, the 88 model, Hurst/Olds and 442 only. The B bodies are another source.

Re: 87 Cutty Rallye Rim Issue

i was thinking about doing some Glasspack muffler on the stock setup but i heard there is some cutting you can do to make it sound better ??? anyone deal with Glasspacks?

Re: 87 Cutty Glasspack 3.8?

I've had glasspacks on other cars with V8s in them and I think they sound good. I still don't think that louder exhaust on a V6 sounds good though. It's like walking into a crowded room and screaming, "I have an average, medium-sized wankus!" Sure, everyone will hear it but no one's gonna care. The only reasons I can think of to do an exhaust upgrade is if (1) the current system is completely rusted off the car, or (2) you plan to do a V8 swap in the very near future.
If you have your heart set on glasspacks you might look into copying the early Z28 chambered exhaust. I always thought they sounded great and the Gbodys have a similar layout with the muffler(s) behind the axle.

ps. Those new wheels are gonna look great on there.

Re: 87 Cutty Glasspack 3.8?

I had a glass pack on a 3800 v6, was dam loud but sounded not bad.

Re: 87 Cutty Glasspack 3.8?

Im not trying to make a racecar or make it sound Fast i just like to hear the car , and personally the v6 dosent sound to bad of course i want a v8 that will come next winter. But what im getting at is its not about impressing anyone I just want to hear my car you know? I could care less about john or sally joe trying to talk smack about my car as long as im happy. ive heard some pretty decent 3.8s on youtube mostly on newer Camaros

Re: 87 Cutty Glasspack 3.8?

Not really a fan of glass-paks, they don't sound to my ears all that great and might attract too much attention. I put a Flowmaster super 50 in mine, in the stock single-out configuration. Good loping rumble but no "look at me" noise.

What kind of Rear end is in my car cant you tell from the bolt pattern ? and what not?

It looks like a 7.5". Look at the diff cover head on. If it has little "fangs/pointy things" on the bottom of the diff on oposite sides, than it is a 7.5".
