BUILD THREAD 1987 Olds 442 Project Build

The engineer said this was revised to increase strength (limit flex) of the bracket to abutment bracket tandem.

Well.... The guy on the phone told me "it wouldn't hurt" if an older M8 thread kit was used as-is but that the larger hardware was better.

The engineer wasn't in yet when we initially started our conversation.

The guy on the phone w/me thought it was bolt-on/M8 thread as well. He even looked @ his reference info & said it even mentions about chasing the M8 threads w/a tap if they were questionable. I mentioned that after conversing w/you in this thread w/questions about the kit, that my investigating found instructions for the kit online & a reference of the 3/8-24 hardware + required drilling/tapping w/pics. Then the engineer came in & said they did revise things & that if the instructions referenced using the M8 hardware it was an older kit.

He said if I had the older stuff I could just drill it for the upsized hardware & that's when I again told him I was merely inquiring to confirm 'how it actually comes now' as I was considering the purchase but that I would be forwarding the details to you as well.

Here's something I did right off the bat. The Lifter Valley Oil Baffle was MIA when I bought it. I found one on ebay, and the guy wanted $150.

No thanks!

So I just made my own with a sheet of aluminum and some paper to make a template.

After crafting a working template I just trace it on the sheet.

2 Grade 8 bolts, a sheet of aluminum and about 40 minutes of my time and done. Prob cost me $6.00.

Excellent job 👏 👍

No doubt.

I'm working on the air cleaner right now. Gotta take 2 single carb bases and make 1 Dual Quad base. Fun!

So as you may remember, I have an Offenhauser 360 Dual Quad Intake for my 455.

My challenge was finding an air cleaner to fit this older style intake. Everything I found I just didn't like or wouldn't fit. Most just weren't big enough and just covered the throttle openings.

I finally settle on this one because it looked a little factory in it's shape and size. It's sold through Holley. It's made by White Box.

Here's my issue I have to fix. It's for a single carb.

I bought 2 and have to cut up both bases to make 1 Dual Quad Base. I start with making a paper template of the dual carb spacing.

And a template of the single carb center section.

This will help me visually plan out how to space the openings apart and make them fit.

CONTINUED....
