Like the title says, I just got my first Cutlass the other day. An 88 Supreme with a 307 and the auto OD trans (not sure if it's a 700r4 or not). Figured I'd better check a forum out since I'm having trouble finding a few things for it.

My intention is to flat black it, de-chrome the entire body and redo the interior in oxblood red or something close to that color. Basically make a Mad Max style lookin ride. My problem is the door panels are trashed and all the boneyards around here crush anything older than 10 years 🙁 . Anyone know where I could pick up some cheap replacements?

As far as picking up replacement door panels, I would just check out the For Sale section of the boards.
You can find almost any part you will need, and for pretty decent prices. 🙂

Thanks man I'll have to take a look. I know where there is a cutty and an 80s GP the guy's parting out, but he's about an hour away from me and I don't know his phone # 🙁 . I'll try to get some pics up soon.

Sounds good man! I have an 86 Cutlass Supreme myself and all I can say is I love these cars.
What are your plans for it?

Well my immediate plans are to fix the brakes, suspension and interior then de-chrome it and paint it flat black. After that, it's mostly just trying to find some performance parts for a 307 🙂. I'd like to redo the interior in oxblood red, but I'd rather not have to reupholster everything yet if I can avoid it.

Thanks for the info on the trans. I have more experience with Mopar than I do GM.
How much horsepower can that trans handle without major upgrades? (that's assuming I can get a good amount out of the 307 of course  )

For starters you wont get much more out of your 307 so consider an engine upgrade right off the bat. 307s are natural dog motors and more suited for boat anchors. Get a Olds 350 or 403 then start worrying about your transmission.

I'd love to find a 403 for it sometime, but right now I just want to get it reliable with a little more power 🙂. What was the factory HP rating for the 307?

Luckily I live in Indiana (no emissions testing) so there's probly 10-25 more ponies just doin away with the useless smog crap. After that a descent exhaust, electric fan and maybe an intake/carb combo should free up a few more.
