hi, I'm wanting to change my th200 for a th400 (short tale) I was wondering what this prcess would be. Heard you can get drive sh. from g body 200r4 and just change the yoke that goes into trans and move crossmember back?? Is this true? I have 85 Cutlass Supreme 2dr Thanks a lot.

you will need a new crossmember.
why are you going with the 400? is it a drag car? the 400 is very durable but the gearing is extremely high as it's designed for trucks. if it's going to be a driver i highly recommend the 200-r4. you will still need to change the crossmember.

If it is not a high powered application, the TH 400 will make the car slower than it would be with a TH 200 4R, TH700 R4 or a TH 350 due to the large amount of power it takes just to run that transmission. It has a lot of internal mass that is only really helpful in a high load application like towing or drag strip use. I forget the actual figure, but I remember reading somewhere about the minimum power necessary to get different GM automatics to operate and a TH400 took like 10-15 more hp than a TH 350. Something to think about with a 305 or a mild 350 which can't spare the power.

id use a Th2004r....build it up and it will be just as dependable as the 400...

why would he need a new crossmember? i thought the Th200 and 400 have the same crossmember mounting position ?

i know the g-force crossmember fits the 400 and 200r4 but i think the th200 is a bit shorter.
