Welcome to the site. Lots of good folks here.
Just curious as to why you're looking to swap one type of 4 speed automatic transmission for another type of 4 speed automatic transmission. Most people who are looking to swap to the 4 speed auto, are generally looking to upgrade from a 3 speed auto to a transmission with overdrive. From what you're saying, you have a car that came from the factory with the 4 speed auto, with all of the proper mounts, shifter, console (I'm assuming floor shift), speedo drive, driveshaft, etc. You're probably looking at making some modifications to install the 700R4 into your car, and get it working properly.
If you're thinking that the 700R4 is a stronger transmission, yes, in some applications it can handle more power, but the 200R4 can be built to handle a lot more power as well. If you want more information, check out the websites for either Art Carr automatic transmissions, CK Performance automatic transmissions, or check out any of the turbo Buick websites. Some of the turbo Buick guys are putting some serious horsepower through properly built 200R4 automatic transmissions. One of the advantages of the 200R4, is that is does not require any type of computer controls.
I have a friend who owns an '88 Monte SS. He's currently running a modified LS2 engine from a 2006 Corvette in his car, with a properly built 200R4 transmission. He's had the car tested on a chassis dyno, and it puts out almost 400HP at the rear wheels (over 500HP at the flywheel). Another friend ran a 200R4 transmission behind a 502/502 Chevrolet crate engine in her '87 Monte SS for a season of both street and strip driving. The transmission internal components were upgraded for the extra power, but in the end, she had to upgrade to a 4T80E with a full manual valve body (all upshifts and downshifts have to be done manually), because the transmission case couldn't handle the shock of the launches at the track, and it would crack (keep in mind, that this is a 3,800lb, mid 11 second street legal car). The internal components held up just fine.
As I said, I'm just curious. Just some food for thought.

Yeah, unless you are going for a 550+hp/tq car that you plan to launch hard with slicks, you might as well invest in the 200. there's nothing inherently wrong with them in stock form until you get upto 350-400hp.

Thanx alot... Im still learning alot lol

Is it Chevy powered? Pretty sure there were no B/O/P 700R4s

But I do agree, there is no real reason to replace the 2004R with a 700R4....clean8485 made all the right points
