I've got a lead on a 200-4r from a Buick T-Type that has been freshly rebuilt. Will it hold up to a 425hp 500tq, Olds 455? I'll be adding a 2200-2500 stall and a shift kit as well.

In stock form? No.

You can pretty much plan on spending $2000+ getting one to handle it.

That's why I went with the $800 bulletproof TH400 when I put in my 455.

Someday when the funds allow it, I'll get mine built up and put it back in...

Yeah, mine's set up with a TH400 for the same reason. Gas mileage sucks however 🙁

I'm told the 200 has serious potential and can be built to handle significantly more torque than a built up 700 could ever handle. Heard that from a transmission shop tech.

I think the TH200-4R maxes out at 1200hp when built right. The 700 is somewhere like 900-1000 if I remember right. There is a common misconception that the 700 is stronger. Maybe in stock form--but thats it.

You can't beat a well-built TH200-4R. Besides the 4th OD gear (better gas mileage), you get good gear spacing, especially between the 1-2.

My 200 has been dealing with the torque of my 383 with no problems. It chirps the tires going into all 4 gears.

For a awhile I was using a very mild TH200-4R, but split the direct drive drum in half.
