While checking line pressure with a gauge, should pressure increase immediately as you start to pull the TV cable? Should it only increase at the end of the cable travel (WOT)? Is it linear or slow at first and increasing more rapidly as the cable is extended?

I just installed my second used transmission in a week and both had zany pressures. The first one I put in a shift kit before trying it out first and it shifted strange and pressures were all over the place. Some high, some low. I contacted Superior, the shift kit maker, and they said my pump was weak. I picked up a second transmission (cheap) and thought I'd just throw it in and roll the dice. Turns out it was just plain worn out. I just can't seem to get clear answers as to what the pressure rise should look like. Any help?

Are you ckecking this at idle and just pulling on the tv cable? The pump might not be able to keep up with the volume needed at idle for pressure to rise .

Try poking around on this site. Jake has some pretty good info and a shift kit i would recommend.

Thanks for the links. I actually ran across every one of them while trying to figure out my issues. I was taking my pressure readings at around 1000-1200 rpm. Still don't know what the problem is. The car spent over a week at the transmission shop and they were no help either. I'm now armed with an ATSG manual and I guess I'll try to figure it out myself.

Call up this place and get one of these if you are going into one. Not cheap but worth the price of admission.

If you have a local "recylcer"(wrecking yard) head down there and look under the rwd Cadillacs(FLeetwood, Coupe de ville and Sedan De Ville. You are looking for a 2004r with the yellow AA code tag on the rear pass side of the trans. These are good starting points as most have never been abused. Good place to get the tv cable and associated bracketry too.

Unfortunately most transmission shops might see one or two 2004rs a year. Not what I would call a common unit any more, so they never get good at fixing them. You might also try to put in a call to Dave Husek at Turbo Buick Performance. He is a helpful individual.
