Hello all! I am currently removing all the smog components out of my 86 Monte Carlo ss and removing the wire harness. In doing so, I'm finding out that I need a lock up switch for the transmission.
Of all the ones I've found, I prefer the external wired version. which consists of putting a oil pressure switch on the fourth gear plug on the outside and wiring it to the electrical plug to engage the lock up. My question is, does anyone know a part # to which pressure switch would be used here. Or are they all generic. I know there's kits out there available, but I'm not too keen on paying a 100 plus dollars for a plug and a pressure switch. Lol any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, fellas.

I'm not familiar with using a pressure switch for lock up. A vacuum switch, yes but not a pressure switch.

I too am unfamiliar with the use of a pressure switch in this application. I've read of toggles or vacuum, but this intrigues me.

20$ for a pressure switch kit seems like an ok deal. I see no specs on the switch. Naturally normally open and a minimum amount of pressure to close.

When my 700 was built in 03 I had it setup for hydraulic lockup which came in 3rd and always stayed locked in 4th. After quite a few yrs the 3rd gear lockup cause some issues so I switched to electric lockup. I hook up a pressure switch in 4th gear pressure port. I added switched 12v and a timer delay relay (don’t want 3-4 shift the same time as lockup) it works better than expected. My 700 shifts into 4th around 45mph and the rpm isn’t low enough to ever lug.

You are better off keeping the computer. It locks up the TC better than anything the aftermarket offers.
