Like Kaw-LigaI would never use wood to hold a car up. 2 x 4 is made of pine, which is a very soft wood. Is your life, or one of you friends or families life, not worth the extra money to buy a good set of jack stands??

Wood beams hold up entire homes when in the process of being lifted off their foundations and moved to a new location.
Personally, I use short lengths of railroad ties to support a vehicle while I'm working underneath. I feel much more comfortable with this method rather than a couple of rickety jack stands.
If you have nothing but solid wood between the frame/tires and the ground....AND the width of whatever you are using is enough to not introduce stability issues..... I don't see the concern.

No guarantee's w/steel either.Wood beams are used to hold up a lot of things, as a temporary measure and I'm not crawling around under any of them. In my opinion, if it ain't steel, it ain't real.

To each their own I guess.....all I know is that the Rail Road ties I use have stood up to years of abuse and tons of weight.....all out in the elements..... Supporting a 3500 lb car??..... no sweat....on the other hand.....a couple of chinese built jack stands??...eh, no thanks.Wood beams are used to hold up a lot of things, as a temporary measure and I'm not crawling around under any of them. If I'm spending time underneath I double up. The car itself goes on stands on all 4 corners to where it's level. To each their own I guess.....all I know is that the Rail Road ties I use have stood up to years of abuse and tons of weight.....all out in the elements..... I will crawl under a car supported by jackstands if I have no other options.... I just pucker up my a_ _ h_le and make it quick 🙂
When I was an ironworker we used wooden cribbing for everything huge cranes, boilers, generators and more.
