Shoulda asked them at Goodguys car show, they woulda told you that the amount of $$$ you will spend getting your 305 up to 300HP would be a LOT more than getting a 350 to do the same. Spend less money and time, and get more bang out of your 350 with those parts, and less headache/compression/overheating issues etc...

I have never built a 305 but I would think you'd have to spend more then a few $$ on building it up to 300 hp....even if you kept the stock heads they'd have to be modified. The Monte SS had better heads than a stock 305 and that only put out I think 185 hp....

should i just use my 305 heads on my 350 block and have the machine shop modify them to work good with my block ???
They won't flow very good. Even if you port/polish them, the combustion chambers and intake runners are too small to flow well, not worth it. Sure you'd get more compression -- but also high heat. In layman's terms, 305 heads suck -- and putting them on your 350 is a bad idea. How do I know? because in my past... I done it. :blam:
Put some nice 350 heads on your 350 block.

decent heads for a 350 shouldn't run you too much. I bought my vortec heads fully dressed with the rockers for $300...

my last car had this done. It was a late 80s 350 block with 305 heads.
it used to be a common mod back before you could get high compression heads for a 350. And it was cheap...

you'll get good compression, but the flow sucks... so you'll always run hot and lean, and eventually burn valves.

The best way to get 300 HP out of a 305... replace it with a 350. 8)
