305 700r Swap

i dont think im able to put it in drive im putting it in od because of console shift cant go down anymore. IS the transmission order park-reverse-neutral-overdrive-drive-and so. if so im shifting down three times which means im putting it in the od position

I think your shifter linkage is the problem...YOu should take it to a transmission shop and let them look at it or post some pics here of what you got underneath....If your putting it into o/d and it's not shifting properly then you got some issues friend....was your floor shifter stock or did you have a column shift? I had a column shifter and went to a floor shifter--B and M pro stick...I did this swapo when I bought the car and had a th-400 in it...When I went with the 700r4 all I had to do was get a different gate plate is all.....

im going to try to replace my trans cable...right now the plastic part that goes in between the bracket is broken in half...is there any write ups to replace this cable? does the plastic part just slide in between the bracket

i replaced the trans cable yesterday that solved my problem being able to shift the trans from drive to park. I still couldnt get the trans to shift to 2nd i even tried wot i tried adjusting the tv cable what else can i try

i finally got the tv cable to click and it slid out i hope this time it works i hate to spend 980 on a trans rebuild...nor do i have time to pull the trans

Keep us posted...I was thyinking it might also have something to do with your governor or valve body...Hopefully you got it though... 8)

Update: Im still trying to decide what I want to do with this car. The 305 and 700r trans i purchased was a piece of trash. The engine was strong I can spin out and it has a lil power but smokes I think the engine may need rings,valve seals, and head gaskets. As for as the trans its pos too it will not shift out of 1st and I have adjusted the cable properly. I also purchased some gauges for my Monte Carlo but i could not get the oil temperature switch\unit into the block...the replacement switch for gauges was a lot rounder and taller than the oil light switch...how can i install the oil gauge switch if its hitting block

IM thinking about tearin down this 305 and rebuilding...how much hp could i expect if i was to bore this engine and add a nice came to it...maybe close to 300hp
