Yes, a cam & lifter kit will have the lifters you need. Since the block may be decked and the heads probably won't be stock, I'd advise against getting the kit with the pushrods. They will need to be a custom length and have to be measured and ordered for your particular length.

First, sorry for digging up an old thread. It hasn't been done yet to the Cutty, but things and needs have been changed. I need a car to drive to work and my 350 Olds is getting extremely "tired." I need a motor in this thing that has power, reliability, and descent mpg. I need a 383 because I have already done the machine work. This is the combo I originally had picked out. COuld I get 20ish mpg with this?

No way you would get 20mph with that setup. Carb and cam are too big to even get close, maybe 14mph if you're lucky. I would suggest you start looking at a fuel injection setup if you want to hit the 20+mph mark.

thats what I was thinking too. i dont wanna drop a couple g's for that kind of setup though. any suggestions?

Step down to a 600cfm edelbrock with an electric choke and go with one of the smaller roller cams. Keep the 2004r overdrive trans and match it up with a set of 3.23 gears. As for the torque converter, if you haven't already gotten one, I would say a 2000 stall would work well for what you plan as it was used in most corvettes stock. That should at least get you around what you're looking for.

In most cases, a small block chevy does not need a 750cfm unless you plan on using it as a drag car and you're making near 450+hp. The point of going with a larger carb is to give the motor more fuel at higher rpms. In your case, you won't be spending a lot of time in the higher rpms and 600 cfm carb will get you better torque response.

With the setup I suggested to you, matched up with your choice of heads, I would estimate that you would get between 383-400hp range, which is good cause a good engine build would get you 1hp for every cubic inch of motor.

Ok, I have been looking around on craigslist, and I found a TPI setup out of an '82-'92 camaro. I actually found 2. one with everything besides wiring and fuel injectors for $50. I also found a complete system with everything including ECU, wiring, and fuel pump for $350 and without the fuel pump for $300. Should I go that route?
