383 stroker rocker arms

One possible cause might be the spring pressure on the heads. I put a set of heads on a 355 last summer and spent the whole summer adjusting the valves every week or two. When I would push the engine into let's go mode, the spring pressure would pump down some of the lifters and the noise was very loud. I would have to loosen each noisy rocker a little at a time with the engine running to get the lifter(s) pumped back up. Everything would be nice and quiet till the next time I got heavy foot disease.

Did you check the spring pressure to make sure they were within spec for your cam?
I have the same heads as Zzz and a very similar Howards roller in my 355 SBC the springs were within spec for the cam and I have had no issues.
I also do a final lash adjustment hot while running just to make sure everything is adjusted to my liking.

Roller rockers are not the cause of the clatter. Are you running a hydraulic or solid cam? I'm going to start with valve adjustment.

I put some Ford/Crane Cobra roller rockers on a GT40P top end 5.0 HO with stock HO cam. As soon as I went to the roller rockers I got valvetrain noise. I played with the geometry a bit, preload, and pushrod length and eventually just lived with the noise. Fast forward to the 1500 in my sig, super mild Ramjet cam in a 350 Vortec. I added Comp Pro Magnum chromoly roller rockers and they're much quieter. I can still hear a tiny bit of noise with the engine running hood up, but I have to be looking for it. Can't hear a thing inside the truck. My Z06 is a little noisy too all stock inside, but that's normal.

Will check all of the above. Never checked springs before, but can I go back to the old style rockers with my set up. And I also want to switch to th350 trans. Should I get the lock up or the non. I really thank every for help. Sorry for delay, bomb did a number on service

Are the Comp Cams rockers arms a full roller or just a roller tipped steel arm?, regardless going backwards to install a stock rocker is not the way to go as stated it sounds like an adjustment issue. I also doubt there is any issue with spring pressure.
IMO since your engine is running I would do a hot lash final adjustment while running and it is even easier if you have a full roller rocker.

I’m about to do and I’ll send a pic and you can see.

If you don’t do something soon and report back some results your help is going to lose interest. Sorry to sound harsh but turning an hour job into a two week conversation is a bit hard to justify.
