Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

Damn all that work you've done makes me feel like I've been dragging my feet  I must admit i am jealous.... Seriously it has come along very well.Good job and keep the build coming along and maybe it will inspire me to get moving on mine.

Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

i appreciate the kind words! Actually, i have put a damper on spending money on the thing, because i need to start paying student loans soon and all that fun stuff. If it were up to me, it would have a shift kit in and some tires.

Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

really? I was thinking of relocating the battery to the trunk but that seems a bit to radical for me to do for a ram air set up. What did you find?

yeah, i think i found a way to run hose past the battery on the drivers side. but i might switch to the bumper inlets for a more stealth look.

Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

if you would take a piece or pvc pipeat a 90 or even maybe a 45* angle on the back of the headlight facing down and to the right, you could wind the hose up and between the innerfender and the fender skin and route it out near the horns through that triangular shaped opening. could actually do this on both sides for a clean look.

Warren has the idea going right here.

BTW the boat isnt hooked up to the car, although it does look like its meant to be color-wise. I think the boat is a '79  The headlights are a love it or hate it deal. I love it 8)

The parents still havent noticed my new vinyl decal, i have a feeling they would disapprove.

   That's quite awesome, and incognito enough it doesn't look gaudy

A suggestion... get some gutter guard from Home Depot, trim it to fit over the openings, and paint it black. It'll help keep larger crap out, and I think it will make the setup look more complete 8)

Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

actually if you cover the opening in guttergualrd or the mesh headlight covers and paint the headlight buckets silver along with the gutterguard then at a quck glance it looks like headlights. Without the headlights in there the car looks funny IMO

Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

Thanks doob, lol thats what i was going for. I wasnt sure i could pull it off but i think i did.

It is a good idea, but I'm undecided on white or black. the ones this guy did on his X-ray are white or silver obviously.

Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

just a little update:

Got the 800 q-jet on, but it still needs some tuning. idle is rough in park like it has a big vac. leak, and we had to set the idle high (like 1200) because it wants to die as soon as i put it in drive. othet than that its good though. huge difference between this and the 600 holley.

Got a starter heat shield, one of those fabric "wrap" kinds. seems to be doing its job.

A bearing in one of my fan motors went out a while back, so i had a wobbly squeaky-*ss fan for a while, just swapped it out today, much better.

Also when we put the carb on we were messing with the timing, and turns out my engine isnt advancing at all. so were gonna try a new distributor, because the mechanical adv. in mine looked a little shaky.

and the parents took out home desktop to get worked on, and they needed the wireless router for some reason :blam: so i have no interwebz at home lately. I'm working at the hotel now 😀

Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

back to stealing the neighbors wireless

Also some stuff i forgot.

Got a new alternator (85 amp) because i got stranded on my first big trip with the new harness. Must've fried it when the power wire to it shorted. runs 13-14 volts now instead of 11ish. looks better too!

Also bought a real air cleaner spacer because the drop base is too much of a drop. its plastic now instead of my galvanized sheetmetal p.o.s. 8)

And a sweet air cleaner topper! 8)

Pic time!

note how i was smart enough to use the insulated holders to keep the wires off BOTH sides of the mani... :blam:

as soon as i can get ahold of some tubing benders I'm gonna bend up fuel line from the pump to carb. couldn't believe i couldn't find one at the junkyard.

Headlights are also back in. Guess i just got bored
