Better read my sticky on the parts you will need before you take your car apart. Remember, I did the exact same swap in my car. I would also check with your local inspection station and see what they will check for with regards to emissions equipment.

good question....I'm going over to his house sometime in the next few days, so we'll go over everything.

Thats all I've been doing is looking over those parts lists

I think I have all the emissions stuff listed in the thread, but I may have missed some of it. IIRC, the only piece my car lacked was a 3 way cat as I used a 2 way instead, and did not have the AIR tube that runs to the cat.

good news gentelmen, My parents ok'd a 350 swap!!

My buddy has a TBI 350 out of his '86 chevy truck. He has the intake manifold and hei distributor for it, vortec heads, and a few other things. All it needs is a bearing kit, gaskets, valve seals, piston rings, and a mechanical fuel pump, and I need a 4 barrel carb. He offered to help me put it back together and get it in my car.

Was that a 87 or newer truck? 86's where carburated. Also if it is a fi motor I believe there wasn't a provision for a mech fuel pump on them. So you would have to run an elec. pump. And it would be a roller motor so that is a big plus. Have fun with the swap you'll love it.

You're kinda right. 86 should have been a carb motor. It may or may not have a provision for a mechanical pump. And not all of them are roller motors. I'm really curious to see this motor. We need pics, lol.

SOME EFI engines lack the provision for a mechanical pump, but not all. The easy way to see would be to take off the block off plate and see if there is a pushrod hole up there. If there is, you can install a standard Chevy fuel pump pushrod and fuel pump plate on it and be fine. If there is no plate over the hole then it doesn't have the hole.

Even if there is a hole the cam may not have a lobe on it.

IIRC, it is usually the later roller cam GEN I SBC's that did not have the provisions for the mechanical pump, not the early ones. I do know that starting with the MK V BBC's, they eliminated the provision in the block on those engines.

Sorry guys, the engine is from an '87, no roller cam, one piece rear main seal. The engine is just on a stand, all there except top end he swapped over to his high compression engine in his truck. He has a ridge reamer to take off the lip just from use, he has a honer as well.

For the motor, I'm getting new valve springs, rod and main bearings, gasket set, piston rings, a mechanical fuel pump and pushrod, and a new cam  something a little more healthier than the stock one (any spec. suggestions?). He has new lifters, HEI Dist., Vortec heads, manifold (it does fit the heads), a 4 barrel carb, and a 7 blade fan (I think thats the right #)

We're going to the summit store this weekend if I can get off work. Then at the beginning of next month we'll tear it apart and start puttin this thing together. 8)
